said in a statement.
“In preparation of the
next Census, advance
activities are underway. To
this effect, The Ministry of
National Development
Planning through the
Central Statistics Office
(SCO), has commenced a
pilot mapping exercise
throughout Lusaka and
Simumba allegedly
remarked, in a WhatsApp
group that, “when you fall,

(UNZA) in 1994 when the

entire vote cast. After
MMD lost that election,
some of its members
joined the PF while others
went to UPND thereby
pushing Hichilema’s party
to be the main opposition
by default. There is
nothing justifiable that
Hichilema did to earn this
position. It is by default,”

Ngwira adds:
“This explains one
fundamental truth; that,
UPND under one
Hichilema is a rejected
product on the Zambian
political market. This
explains why a desperate

And KBF says in the year
2019, Zambians must
remove all elements of fear
and unite around the
desire to see a better
country. He has urged
Zambians to stand up to
selfish, incompetent and
self-centered divisive

“Zambia only gets better
when we choose to get
better at working together
as a united people
regardless of ones tribe or
political affiliation,” KBF
says.
In the past, KBF
appealed to President
Edgar Lungu and PF
government to have regard
for the common people in
Zambia. He was
commenting on the
escalation of prices on fuel
urging the Head of State to
stop involving middle men
in the supply of oil in
Zambia.
KBF said the cost of fuel
is high in Zambia because
President Lungu has
allowed the involvement of
middle men in the supply,
who are his associates.

relentlessly criticized
many policies and actions
of his own party PF.

opposition parties which
has given sleepless nights
to the PF.

that its leader Elias
Chipimo has made his

work as a renowned lawyer
both inside and outside
Zambia.

Ordinarily, we would love to be lost on what to do in order to

dedicate this editorial to our
readers, explaining to them what
Redpepper is all about and what it
offers. However, we are persuaded
to comment on the hate speech that
the opposition keeps on peddling
against those in government.
On the first day of this year, UPND
senior official Douglas Syakalima
said President Edgar Lungu is not
from God but the devil. It is very
difficult to understand the logic
behind these unfortunate
assertions Douglas made. How
does someone from the devil look
like?
We ask this because obviously,
Edgar is not from the devil as
Douglas wants to have us believe.
What is true is that God is the
creator of all human, including the
very people that do exactly the
opposite of what divine authority
wants from his greatest creation,
man.
These things being suggested by
Douglas are out of hate for Edgar. It
is very clear for all to see that there
is serious buildup of hate against
Edgar within the UPND and other
opposition parties such that they
have no shame to say that someone
who was created by God is from the
devil. But this hate does not win you
elections. The voters are not
interested in all this hate that they
are directing towards Edgar. What
people want to hear is articulation
of ideologies which the opposition
offers to them, than what the
editorial comment
Patriotic Front (PF) offers.
There is no need to hate Edgar
and his government by those in
opposition. If the opposition is
convinced in its wisdom that they
are the best to lead this country, let
them focus on mobilizing the people
around their cause, than continue
exerting their energies discharging
hate against Edgar and his
government. Hate does not produce
votes and it shall never drive anyone
anywhere.
In the annals of Zambian politics,
there has never been a time where
an opposition has won elections,
using hate speech. Late President
Chiluba and his MMD beat Kaunda
and his UNIP by articulating their
ideologies, and galvanizing the
support of the people around their
cause.
Late Michael Sata spent his ten
years in the opposition explaining
his intentions and ideologies to the
people against the MMD and not
insulting this one and that one.
Clearly, the opposition seems to
galvanize the people to rally behind
them. Even their attempt to unite
and flaunt a single leader in 2021 is
borne out of lack of serious
strategies to beat Edgar and his
party PF. If the opposition is
convinced that the PF are so
unpopular that they have been

things about the President?

who discharge this hate against
Edgar are the ones who appear
close to be agents of the devil than

POLITICIANS continue to
subject Zambians to ping
pong games of what is
known today as blame
game. Both PF government
and opposition leaders
have no justification
whatsoever to continue
blaming each other for the
mere reason of showcasing
political might.
Today, almost sixty years
after independence, Zambians
continue to wait for real
freedom – freedom from
hunger, ignorance, disease and
financial liberation. For how
long will political leaders fight
for selfish motives? There is no
doubt that every political party
exists to realize power and
fame, but that does not mean
the ordinary citizens must
languish in poverty and
hunger.
Even though the
constitution provides for the
position of the opposition, this
establishment has uniquely
failed to canvas issues of the
masses and instead advanced
their own mischievous
objective. Their only political
objective has always been
looking into ways of either
impeaching the government of
the day or looking for ways of
dragging the government’s
development programmes. The
African states in general and
Zambia in specific is in the
current economic status
because the opposition has
always failed to look for
opportunities for the people
and instead looked for
opportunities for themselves.
Every successful
government has always been
exposed to objective opposition
that has always identified with
the people and not leaders. I
concur to a larger extent that
the African leadership has
reluctantly failed to listen to
the very citizens who elected
them. The main role of the
opposition in any democracy is
to check the government of the
day. This is a role that is so
crucial to the implementation
of any manifesto at any given
time. Once the opposition
decides to be in bed with the
government, the citizens start
doubting the interest of the
opposition in the context of
service delivery.
For any meaningful
development to
take effect there
has to be robust,
firebrand
opposition leaders
who are literally
sharp and keen on
policies and not
politics. The recent
talk on a united
opposition to
unseat the current
PF leadership will
only bear fruit if it
is driven by the will
of the citizens and
not the will of the
opposition leaders.
There is no denying that
opposition leadership in some
instances has always been
worse than the government.
Truth be said, these leaders
have always continued to
oppose the government with
the sole purpose of kickbacks.
The unity call by the
opposition will therefore be
dead on arrival unless real
structures are put in place and
the people come first, the
opposition leaders and their
interests second. Leadership
and power is like the game of
football where the spectators
play better than the players.
Unless the opposition agrees
on one of them to face PF
leadership, they will still
continue doing a disservice to
the very people who elected
them to the opposition role. It
is upon the members of
parliament to understand the
priorities of the government
during debates, however the
opposition leadership bears the
greatest responsibility of
enhancing people friendly
debates at all time. The blame
game therefore is
inconsequential and only excels
in confirming to the citizens
that the opposition is
meaningless and valueless.
It is time Africans built
institutions that work. Does it
make any sense when the
opposition call for mass action
in a matter that they can as
well secure a court injunction?
Will it add any value to the
citizens when the opposition
leaders walk out of parliament
during proceedings only for an
unpopular bill to be passed in
the very house? Opposition
leaders must canvas issues of
citizens’ interest openly
without ill motive and address
the very concerns without
intending to secure any illegal
gain. It is important for
opposition leaders to treat their
current political position in the
society with respect and view it
from the point of privilege and
not a right. It is only in so
doing will they find reason to
serve the people with humility.

heroes, that is why,

existence in our
country and in this
universe.

the behavior of forsaking
heroes, worth celebrating,
is a genetic make up or not
for African race but what
is clear is that even our
educational system has
stubbornly paid a blind
eye to our own history
which for all intents and
purposes needs to be
celebrated.
We are made to learn
about Adolf Hitler and
Benito Mussolini and
many other irrelevant
historical narratives of
foreign nations when we
have a cluster of our own
past happenings, worth
learning about such as the
insurgency of Lenshina,
the Captain Solo, Mwamba
Luchembe, the Mushala
narratives and just even
the development and
evolution of various
kingdoms and tribal
grouping of Zambia etc.
Clearly, as a nation, we
have neglected the figures
in the narratives of our
past, and it goes that, if we
have a conflict with our
past, chances are that we
will have no significant
stance on the present, and
consequently lose grip on
the future.
Maybe that is why we
seem to have no culture of
our own – everything now
seems borrowed from
other cultures elsewhere!
