Why ESS is Noted
Expectation toward EV
Growing needs for storage as substitute

 The following problems  Material manufacturers

occur against increase and and LIB manufacturers,
expansion of new energy which are to make
(PV, WP) peak demand. aggressive investment, are
• Increase of unstable significantly affected
power because EV market is not
Growing
• System congestion set up as planned.
• Surplus of wind and Expectation
solar power Toward ESS  LIB market for automotive
• Aging of power is supposed to be harsh as
equipment severe price game.
• Power shortage at its
peak demand  When it comes to ESS,
there is no winner yet in
 Each country (state) the market because the
government, actively market is still being
promotes the new rules growing. Lots of attention
and subsidies to develop has been focused on its
its industry potential.

Battery Storage Becomes Inevitable
 Batteries and storage could mitigate this problem to an
extent by spreading solar’s excess peak generation across
the ‘shoulders’
 This would allow more conventional plants to operate at a
natural run rate.
 There is still need certain amount of capacity payments
(conventional plants) to cover backup generation to replace
solar’s shortfall during the winter
 Partly driven by the growth of PV, over 720 MW of
distributed energy storage will be deployed in the U.S.
between 2014 and 2020.
