Delilah Dress

Delilah Dress
(approximately size 3: age 3-4) For Personal use only please.

Supplies:

• ½ metre of focus fabric


• ¼ metre of co-ordinating fabric
• Matching thread
• Pattern pieces

Step 1

• Cut out pattern pieces as indicated


• All seam allowances are standard sewing foot width unless
otherwise stated.

Step 2 – Making straps

• Start with the 4 pieces of PATTERN PIECE D

• Take 2 of piece D and place them right sides together. Repeat


for other 2 pieces.

• Stitch down the curved side of both pieces and clip the curves

• Turn right side out. Roll and press the seams.
• Take the co-ordinating fabric 2 x piece C
• Place right side down and press

• Fold in half length wise and press

• Open out flat again then fold both the top and bottom
sections in half to the centre fold line (like making your
own binding) and press

• Then fold in half on the centre line and press

• Repeat this for both of pieces C. This is what you should have

• Run a basting (Longest possible stitch) stitch down the straight side of
PATTERN PIECE D, be sure not to back stitch. Also leave enough
thread on each end to pull on. Repeat for both pieces.

• Pull gently on the TOP thread and slide the fabric to gather it. Repeat
for both pieces. It should look like this.

• Now take piece C and open it up. Take gathered piece D and pin to
the bottom side of piece C. Be sure it is gathered enough to sit 1 ½
cm inside each end of piece C.

• Fold over the top again and pin in place. Stitch along the folded side.
Repeat for both pieces.

• And there are your straps DONE! They should look like this.

STEP 3 – Making the bodice
• Take 2 pieces of PATTERN PIECE A. Pin straps to one of the pieces in
position as indicated in pattern.

• Place the other piece A right sides together and pin in place. Stitch
down the curved top edge making sure to double stitch the straps to
reinforce them.

• Clip the curves and turn right side out. It should look like this

• Take the 2 pieces of PATTERN PIECE B. Place one of these pieces right
side up and pin the other end of the straps in place.

• Place on top the other piece B right sides together and pin. Stitch the
curved edge, clip the curves and turn right side out.

• Take the side seam of each the back and front bodice piece on either
side, pin right sides together and stitch each side. Turn right side out,
press and topstitch the top curved edge of the bodice.

• So that is the bodice done, it should look like this.

STEP 4: Making Skirt

• Now take the two pieces of PATTERN PIECE E. Run a basting stitch along
the longer side (50cm side) of both pieces, be sure you don’t backstitch.
Gather by gently pulling the TOP thread to the width of the bodice. Pin both
pieces right sides together.

• Stitch down each side and then zig zag to tidy edges (or use a
serger/overlocker)

• Turn skirt right side out. Pin bodice to the top of the skirt right sides
together. Stitch around the top and zig zag to tidy edges (or use a
serger/over locker). Turn right side out.

• You can either hem the bottom OR making your own binding using the
co-ordinating fabric and bind the hem.

Then you’re done!! Congratulations if you’ve made it this far, I hope it all
