Community Council Elections 2017

New Community Council elections are being held on May 14th and this
presents an opportunity for interested residents to become a member of
one of the most forward thinking community councils in Flintshire, so come
and be part of the next stage of our exciting journey.

Over the past five years the nine member community council have secured
funding to develop our play areas, give support local groups, develop
Bennett’s Lane corner as a village centre, organise annual village events
while supporting services for all residents and making Higher Kinnerton a
pleasant community in which to live. The community council have worked
along side FCC in introducing the first community transport scheme in the
county as well as opposing development that may not be in the best
interests of the community. This has all been achieved through the “precept”
raised along side the council tax and delivered through the themes of
Commerce, Community and Communication.

We are now at the end of our current term of

office and up to three members are stepping
down and the community council would like to
thank them for the contribution they have made
to village life. There is now an opportunity for
new members with fresh ideas, skills and a desire
to add further value to our village to come
forward.

To become a community councillor you must be

Village News Features….
Community Transport Scheme Starts.

The much anticipated shuttle service commences on Monday, February 6th from Bennett’s lane
Corner to Broughton Retail Park 6 days a week. A full schedule of the service is included in this
newsletter. There is no membership fee required to use the service and residents holding a bus
pass will be able to use their pass on the shuttle. For non-bus pass holders a single journey fare
costs £1. As this is the first scheme in the county we anticipate that there might be a few teething
problems but in order to get the service right we would welcome residents feedback and this can
be done by contacting Cllr Gareth Evans on 07825 333811 or email gareth@higherkinnerton.org.uk

The Community Demand Service is still in the early stages of development and it is hoped that it
will commence early in March. Residents wishing to use this service for hospital and doctors
appointments will need to become a member of the scheme and an annual fee of £10 is required.
To join and use the service, simply phone 01352 701234 between the hours of 08.30 – 5.00pm. To
provide the appropriate type of transport a 3-hour notice period is required. A mileage fee is also
applicable to use the service. The demand service is being provided in addition to the current
Welsh Border Community Transport Scheme in recognition that demand for this type of service is
growing.
