MINISTRY FOR THE SICK AND
HOMEBOUND
We are grateful to those who give of
their time and care to bring Holy Com-
munion to our parishioners who cannot
make it to church due to sickness or in-
firmity. If you know of anyone who would like to re-
ceive communion in their home or while hospitalized at
West Lincoln Hospital, please contact the parish office.
ARE YOU REGISTERED IN OUR PARISH?
If you are new to the parish or have been attending
Mass here, ensure that you are registered by complet-
ing the tear off section at the front of this bulletin.
Please do not take for granted that you are registered in
the parish, just because you attend Mass here. In the
future, should you be in need of a pastoral letter
(godparent, school, sponsor for confirmation, teacher
referral, etc.), it would be difficult to issue one if you
are not formally registered with the parish.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The Prayer Shawl Ministry continues to create hand-
crafted shawls for parishioners, their families and
friends who are coping with illness, loneliness, pain or
trouble. They are available to anyone who needs one.
Please call the office to request a shawl or lap blanket
or if you would like to join this ministry.
CANADIAN TIRE MONEY
We continue to collect your Canadian Tire
money. It can be brought to the office or
placed in the collection basket.
This week, the Sanctuary Lamp burns in
memory of CARMELA BASILE
The Sanctuary Lamp burns to remind us of Christ’s
presence in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar.
If you wish to sponsor the sanctuary lamp for one
week the stipend is $35.00

ST. MICHAEL’S PRAYER
Bishop Bergie has asked all parishes in the Diocese to
offer up at Masses for 2019 the prayers We fly to Thy
Protection and the Prayer to St. Michael the Archan-
gel. Prayer cards will be available in the pews for use
at the church ~ please do not remove the pew copy.
Extra prayer cards will be available at the round table in
the church entrance for those who wish to take one
home.
We fly to Thy Protection - We fly to thy protection, O
holy Mother of God. Despise not our petitions in our
necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers O
glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
Prayer to St. Michael - St. Michael the Archangel, de-
fend us in the day of battle. Be our protection against
the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God re-
buke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of
the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell
Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl through the
world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

After John the Bap-
tist immersed Jesus in
the waters of the Jor-
dan River, the Son of
God rose up, water
trickling down his
face, standing anointed
as he lifted his eyes to
the skies. A heavenly
confirmation came
when the voice of God
came from the heavens: “You are my beloved Son;
with you I am well pleased.”
At our own baptism, God says the same to us. We
are anointed with holy oils; we are garbed in white;
we are given a lighted candle to keep the flame of
faith burning brightly in our hearts.
Today’s Gospel reminds us that this is a good day
to check our candles and make sure they are still

HEALING MINISTRY SUPPORT GROUP
This month’s topics are ‘Embracing the New Year’,
Jan. 14th; and ‘Navigating Change’, Jan. 28th, Kathryn
McMorrow presenter. Meetings are 7:00-9:00 p.m. at

ST. HELEN’S CLEANING MINISTRY
Can you volunteer 2 hours a month to help clean the
church? To join our team of dedicated cleaners, please
contact the parish office. With winter colds and flus
and vacations, we often find ourselves short of help
making it more burdensome on the ones who can make
it. Please consider this worthwhile ministry which
keeps our parish looking clean and sparkly - do you
have 2 hours a month you can commit?
ECUMENICAL PRAYER SERVICE
The Church calls us to celebrate the Week of Prayer for
Christian Unity between Jan. 18 and Jan. 25.
Please join with Bishop Bergie for a ‘Service of
Prayer for Christian Unity’ at the Cathedral, on Sunday
Jan. 20, at 3:00 p.m. followed by coffee and cookies.
The themes and materials for this year’s world-wide
prayer were prepared by the Christian Churches of In-
donesia. Their key verse is: “Justice, and only justice,
you shall pursue.” Deuteronomy 16:18-20 and the
theme of the prayer service is “Moving from words of
justice, to actions that establish justice.”
DAY BIBLE STUDY FOR JUSTICE
One of the resources available for the Week of Prayer
for Christian Unity (Jan 18-25) is a very thoughtful
eight-day bible study guide prepared by the Christian
Churches of Indonesia.
This resource could be for individual use, or for
small study groups. The eight daily themes are: True
Worship leads to Action, Standing Up For Truth,
Called to Be Gracious and Merciful to Everyone, Liv-
ing Simply and Contentedly, Bringing Good News to
the Poor, Caring For Creation, Empowering Women in
Our Communities, Summing Up Our Conversations.
