As we had just sung, He is Lord…… - indeed Jesus is Lord of all nations, races and languages.

About the later, let’s take a look at the biblical languages.

The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic.

Nehemiah 13:24

And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’
language, but according to the language of each people (KJV).

1. Hebrew is an ancient and unique language and is commonly considered to be a holy

language (lashon hakodesh) – many ultra-orthodox will only use it for prayer.
2. It was originally a biblical language and after 2000 years was revived. It is now spoken
as a modern language by over 9 million people. Although it was never actively spoken
it never stopped being used as a written language.
3. Hebrew is written right to left, but numbers are written left to right. The numbers used
are exactly as in English, Arabic Numerals.
4. The Hebrew alphabet is an abjad, a writing system that lets the reader supply the
appropriate vowel. Hebrew has vowels but they mostly are not marked – one have to
know how each word is pronounced.

The New Testament was written in Greek (‘the Greek’ in the New Testament is often translated
as ‘the Gentles’) as the dominant Roman empire during the first century used Koine Greek*
(=common Greek) even though there were many other languages in used even among early
Christians.
Acts 2:8-11

And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Parthians, and
Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia,
in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about
Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear
them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

Koine Greek became a first or second language in the Roman Empire.

The origin of Christianity can also be traced through Koine Greek, because the Apostles used
this form of the language to spread Christianity. It is also known as Hellenistic Greek, New
Testament Greek, and sometimes Biblical Greek because it was the original language of the
New Testament and the Old Testament was translated into the same language via the
Septuagint.

As I end, let’s keep in mind that God in His sovereignity reveals Himself to us through the
