Prodigy

When I think of prodigy, I think of a young kid who is an exceptionally skilled

athlete or highly skilled at a certain thing/hobbie. Someone so highly talented at a

certain skill that it is very rare to witness. A prodigy is someone who stands out in the

crowd, the kid who is seen as the best player on/in the field, court, classroom, etc.

The dictionary defines Prodigy as a noun. Meaning a person, especially a young

one, endowed with exceptional qualities or abilities; an amazing or unusual thing,

especially one out of the ordinary course of nature. Synonyms like genius, mastermind,

virtuoso, wunderkind, excional, outstanding are all words you think of when you hear the

word prodigy.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is one of the most known prodigy’s in the world

today. He was the child prodigy par excellence, playing songs on the harpsichord at four

years old and composing simple music at five. Most four year olds like myself are just

understanding and learning the basics and fundamentals of sports like soccer or t-ball

or even learning how to ride a bike with training wheels. He was writing his own music

at the age of five which is very rare. Most popular musicians/artists today are mainly in

their teens, twenties, and thirties. Just imagine writing your own music at the age of five,

and imagine the things in the realm of possibilities by the time you were ten. That's why

his legacy is most famously known worldwide.

Eldrick Tont Woods also known as Tiger Woods. He is today’s most known PGA

golfer around the world. He is also known as an exceptional prodigy. At the age of two
Tiger got his first media exposure. Los Angeles sports anchor Jim Hill does a piece on

Tiger, concluding, "This young man is going to be to golf what Jimmy Connors and

Chris Evert are to tennis." So already at the age of two before he really started playing

golf he was already looked at as the next best thing to happen to the sport. Tiger

appeared on talk shows like “Mike douglas Show”, “That’s Incredible”, “Tonight Show”

with David Letterman and many more shows when he was younger showing off his golf

talents in front of millions of viewers. As he got older he started to win more and more

tournaments. Tiger then spent two years at Stanford, where he quickly established

himself as the best college golfer in the country at the time. Tiger was considered the

best college golfer ever because he won the 1996 NCAA Championship. He posted

3-under, defeating Arizona's Rory Sabbatini by four strokes as Tiger was the only player

to finish under par. He also set a new course record during the tournament. While

playing in college, he won 11 tournaments and then earned the National Player of the

Year. People were then comparing him to the best golfer ever Jack Nicklaus.

People nowadays, reporters, fans, news crew, etc., the reasoning behind why

people fascinate over certain prodigies like Tiger Woods is because of how

exceptionally skilled and unique he and other extraordinary kids are. A certain kid who

you may only witness once in a lifetime in a certain sport or academic competition. It is

so extremely rare that the golf community keeps wondering who is the next Tiger

Woods. The next best thing to golf like Tiger Woods might only happen once every thirty

to forty years, but you'll never know till it happens. Although prodigies are famously

known for there spectacular attributes and accomplishments. You don't have to be a
well known prodigy or a prodigy in general to leave a mark on the world in a certain

sport, eduction, or craft.
