The music is mainly descriptive, idiomatic and easy, frequently dramatic elements. The didactic aim is the practice of instrumental ensemble playing. At a personal level there are small musical and technical challenges, such as roles or passages in high positions, natural harmonics, frequent use of dynamics as well as basic articulation techniques, Desi imbricol elements and other colourful effects typical of eontemporory music such os percussive blows, rubbing oc which are always easy to implement. All works are constructed so thatthe first two guitors contain the essence of the musi, while the third and fourth guitars add dimension and colour tothe ensemble. The idea is hat each work can be played either as a duo, asa tro, or as a quartet. The works are also perfectly adaptable for larger ensembles where the teacher can distribute the pars ashe seos fit. The order of the pieces in the edition is purely formal. Generally speaking, the level of difficuly is slightly lower in the first volume than in the second. | wish to thank Michael Macmeeken for his enthusiasm in promoting this collection, an important stimulant for me. | would olso like thank the members of the JAM quartet, Matts Kulvik, Paul Pojarinen, Juha-Fekka Putkonen and Kari Rantanen who tested these works with their pupils, the excellent and exemplary recording of the CD accompanying this edition, and lastly Eeva Tervala for her boundless inspiration and evocative drawings. Se trata de una misica en su mayor parte descriptiva y con frecuente utilizaci6n de elementos draméticos; técnico- mente idiomética y fécil, cuya finalidad didactica es exclusivamente la préctica del conjunto instrumental. A nivel personal incluye, no obstante, pequefios desafios técnicos y musicales féciles de superar como pueden ser notas 0 fragmentos sencillos, a tocar en posiciones agudas; sonidos arménicos naturales; abundante utilizacién de lo dinémica y de lo articulacién bésicas asi como de elementos timbricos fundamentoles y otros efectos coloristicos tipicos de la mésica contemporénea, como golpes, frotaciones, etc. siempre de facil ejecucion. Todas las obras estin elaboradas de forma que as dos primeras uitorras contienen lo esencial de su material musical, mientras que la tercera le cvartaafiaden espacio y color al conjunt. La idea es que cada obra pueda ser utilizada, como duo, como trio o como cvarteto,segin se toquen dos primeras partes, las res primeras o el conjunto de las cuatro. También son adaptables a grupos de cémara més amplios, en cuyo caso el profesor puede distribuir las voces como mejor le parezca, El ordenamiento de las piezas en la edicién es puromente formal, si bien el nivel general de dificultad en el primer tomo es ligeramente inferior cl del segundo.
