Ee EWE Mustang High School ‘Mustang High School Parents, ‘Working in partnership with parents to provide open communication and ensure the safety of all students, I wanted to provide you with some information surrounding today’s lockdown at ‘Mustang High School. An unattended suspicious bag located in the media center was found by a tal member at approximately 9:30 A.M. this morning, January 17, 2019. A loaded ‘weapon was found inside the bag, Administrators and school resource officers took immediate action by placing the school on lockdown and by contacting our Police Department. Together ‘we acted promptly to identify the owner ofthe bag and to maintain the safety ofall students and stall. ‘The owner of both the bag and the weapon was identified as an employee of Mustang Public Schools. This employee has a CCL (Certified Handgun License). The employee was planning to go target shooting ast night and forgot to remove the weapon from his bag before coming inside the school this morning. The district is taking appropriate action for this employee. Providing a safe and secure learning environment is of top priority to the Mustang Public ‘School System, and we take these incidents very seriously. Extensive security measures are in place to help us maintain a safe campus. We practice drills in order to respond to these situations, and today our safety protocols proved to be effective ‘As parents, you can help. Please take this opportunity to speak to your student about the importance of school safety. We want to encourage students to feel comfortable reporting any information they believe could compromise their safety and the safety of others.
