AME Assignment Template

This document will describe the page template and layout for any assignment submitted whilst you
are studying with the AME department. Unless otherwise directed by your tutor on the issue of an
assignment, you will be expected to submit all work using this format.

Standard contents of the assignment

The standard contents of the assignment will be as follows:

Front pages

These should be the assignment front sheets, assignment question and


marking sheets provided to you on the issue of the assignment (see figure 1).
You should NOT add an additional cover sheet of any description.

You should only state your student number for the entire contents of the
assignment. Your name should not appear anywhere on the front sheet

Please ensure that your student number is correct and legible before you
submit your work to the tutor.

Sheet
Main Body of your Assignment

Unless otherwise directed by your tutor on the issue of the assignment, the main body of your
assignment should be:

 Introduction
 Main body of work
 Conclusion
 Reference List
 Bibliography
Page Set-up

The expected page format is shown in the diagram below:

The header
must have your
student
number in the
top right hand
of every page.
Margins should
be 2.54cm all
around as
highlighted in
the diagram

The footer should


have page
numbers in the
page x of y format

All text within the assignment should be 1.5 line spacing and the font size should be 12 or 14.
Acceptable Font styles are “Calibri” or “Times New Roman” The text should be black on a white
background.

Please note lines shown for margin illustration. Do not draw margin lines in your assignment.
Use of Images

An image can be classified as a Photo, drawing, diagram, table, graph, etc.

Where images are used; they should be relevant, referred to in the text and appropriately
referenced. The image should not be text wrapped and should be centralised

Harvard Referencing

You are expected to Harvard reference all assignment work. You should use the USW Harvard
referencing guide for this. It is available to download as a PDF from the USW Library Services web
page. Additional help and guidance is available for referencing from the USW library team.

Spelling, Grammar & Formatting

It is expected that all work submitted will be free from spelling and grammatical errors. It is your
responsibility to ensure that you proof read your work prior to submission to ensure that it is free
from spelling errors. Please make every effort to ensure that the format is correct.

Some common errors include:

 Telling the reader to look at the diagram below when it is actually on the next page.
 Telling the reader to look at the blue and red lines on a graph when the work has been
printed as grey scale not colour.
 Describing an image or table and not putting it into the document.
 Correctly spelled words but wrong meaning (propeller shirt instead of propeller shaft)
