EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Training and development is the essential job of human resources
department of every organization. It is necessary to help employees
in dealing with the changes caused by the changing business
environment.

I, NIHAR RANJAN BEHERA had done my project in HDFC

BANK. which is a leading Bank in corporate industry. The main
objective of my project was to “Casa Account”.

The training design included departments, and their training

needs, month of training, sequence of training and methods of
training. A proper matrix was formed differently for each level
highlighting the requirements to be trained.

It also includes different skills workshop including the contents,

objectives of the skills imparted to the employees. Most important
in training process are the ice breakers and games which help the
trainees in feeling relaxed and refreshed.

Each level in organization was considered as separate entity and

training procedure for them was also different.

Introduction OF CASA
Imagine a Bank Savings Account which comes with facilities like No limit on number of
Monthly Free ATM Transactions (including other banks ATM usage), No Annual Fees for Debit
Card, No Charges for Cheque Book, Free Demand Drafts and Pay Orders, Free Statement /
Passbook Facility, Free RTGS/NEFT Facility, Free Cheque Stop Payment Facility, Free Internet,
Mobile, Phone and ATM Banking and a list of other free services. You must be wondering that
we are joking. How can a bank offer all these services free of cost? Sounds unbelievable or too
good to be true right? But HDFC Bank has exactly done the unbelievable. HDFC Bank has
waived off the charges on a whole host of services for its Current Account / Saving Account
(CASA) customers. It has done away with lot of charges for its CASA Customers. So let us see
which are these services that HDFC Bank is offering its customers free of cost?

Services on Savings Accounts

HDFC Bank has waived off charges on different services for its current and savings account
holders. Most of these are frequently used services by bank customers for which other public
sector and private sector banks are charging their customers. As per the bank website the list of
services for which HDFC Bank has waived off charges for Super Savings Account is as
follows:

1. Account Opening Amount: A new account can be opened with HDFC Bank with any
amount ranging from Rs 10,000(ten thousand) .
2. The annual fee for the international Debit cum ATM Card.
3. The bank will also issue an additional card per account (in case of joint account) free of
cost.
4. Services like replacement of damaged / stolen / lost card / re-generation of pin are free of
cost.
5. Domestic / International ATM transactions are free. The bank doesn’t charge for other
banks ATM usage. Also there is no cap / limit on the number of free ATM transactions of
other Bank ATMs.
6. Cheque book facility is free. The bank will provide local / multicity (At-Par) cheque book
with the account
7. The bank will provide quarterly statement for existing customers free of cost. For new
customers passbook will be issued free of cost.
8. The bank will provide monthly statement by email free of cost
9. The customer can request for a duplicate statement at the branch free of cost. For this
other banks normally charge in the range of Rs 25 to Rs 100 for duplicate statement at the
branch.
10. Duplicate passbook will be issued free of cost.
11. The customer can also request for duplicate statement through Phone Banking or ATM
free of cost

3
12. The account can be closed by the customer free of cost. Some banks charge for account
closure if the account is closed within a specified time period of opening of the account.
For example some banks charge if the account is closed within 6 months or 1 year.
13. The standing instruction facility is free of cost
14. The customer can ask for a Balance Certificate or Interest Certificate or Signature
Verification certificate free of cost
15. The foreign inwards remittance certificate is free of charge
16. The bank will issue Demand Drafts or Pay Orders free of cost. For this service upto a
certain amount banks charge a fixed amount. Above a certain amount banks charge on a
per thousand rupees basis.
17. The bank will issue foreign currency demand drafts / international money orders free of
cost.
18. Any Branch Banking: Any branch cheque deposits and account to account transfers will
be free of cost
19. Any Branch Banking: Cash deposits will be 5 times without any service charges
20. Any Branch Banking: Cash withdrawal (done by self) will be free of cost
21. If a customer wants to give instructions for stop payment of a cheque, there will be no
charges for it.
22. If a customer wants to request old records / copies of paid cheques; he can do so without
any charges
23. Banking through alternate channels like Internet / Mobile / Phone and ATM Banking is
free of cost.

So that was the long list of services for which HDFC Bank has waived off service charges for its
CASA Customers. These services are normally charged for by other private sector and public
sector banks. The charges collected from these services form an important source of fee income
of a bank. One of the important charges that HDFC bank has kept out of the free service is the
return of a cheque or ECS (Electronic Clearing System) for financial reason. If a cheque bounces
/ dishonoured the customer will be charged for it. Similarly if a ECS is returned for financial
reason the customer will be charged for it.

Banking experts believe that the ratio of CASA (Current Account Saving Account) deposits to
overall deposits for HDFC Bank is very small compared to other banks like SBI, ICICI Bank and
AXIS Bank. For a bank CASA Deposit come at a lower cost compared to time / term deposits.
So in order to increase its share of CASA deposits IDFC Bank has done away with these service
charges.

Required Documents

The extent of documentation required to open a Account may vary

according to your relationship with the institution. If you plan to open a
demat account with a bank, a savings account holder has an edge over the
non-account holder. In fact, banks usually offer additional incentives to
customers who open a CASA account with them. Along with the application
form, your photographs (with co-applicants) and proof of
identity/residence/date of birth have to be submitted. The DPs also ask for a
DP-client agreement to be executed on non-judicial stamp paper.
Here is a broad list (you won’t need all of them though):

 PAN card
 Voter’s ID
 Passport
 Ration card
 Driver’s license
 Employee ID card
 Bank attestation
 IT returns
 Electricity/ Landline phone bill
 A check of min. Rs 10,000/- OR CASH

NEED OF THE STUDY

The need of the study arises because of the reason that a trainee must understand the
company, its achievements and tasks, products and services and also to collect
information about its competitors, its products and services offered. So that, after
understanding and collecting information about the organization and its competitors, a
trainee will be able to work well for the organization. From the study I have learned very
much, about the company as well as the strategy of the customers, which helps me a lot at
my working days.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
All the findings and conclusions obtained are based on the survey done in the working area
within the time limit. I tried to select the sample representative of the whole group during my job
training. I have collected data from people linked with different profession at Bhubaneswar.

RESEARCH PLAN:
 Preliminary Investigation: In which data on the situation surrounding the problems
shall be gathered to arrive at
 The correct definition of the problem.
 An understanding of its environment.
 Exploratory Study: To determine the approximate area where the problem lies

RESEARCH DESIGN:

Research was initiated by examining the secondary data to gain insight into the problem.
By analyzing the secondary data, the study aim is to explore the short comings of the present
system and primary data will help to validate the analysis of secondary data besides on
unrevealing the areas which calls for improvement.

DEVELOPING THE RESEARCH PLAN:

The data for this research project has been collected through self Administration. Due to
time limitation and other constraints direct personal interview method is used. A structured
questionnaire was framed as it is less time consuming, generates specific and to the point
information, easier to tabulate and interpret. Moreover respondents prefer to give direct answers.
In questionnaires open ended and closed ended, both the types of questions has been used.

COLLECTION OF DATA
Secondary Data: It was collected from internal sources. The secondary data was collected on the
basis of organizational file, official records, news papers, magazines, management books,
preserved information in the company’s database and website of the company.

36
Primary data: All the people from different profession were personally visited and
interviewed. They were the main source of Primary data. The method of collection of primary
data was direct personal interview through a structured questionnaire.

SAMPLING PLAN:

Since it is not possible to study whole universe, it becomes necessary to take sample from
the universe to know about its characteristics.
 Sampling Units: Different professionals Chartered Accountants, Tax Consultants,
Lawyers, Business Man, Professionals and House Wives of Bhubaneswar.
 Sample Technique: Random Sampling.
 Research Instrument: Structured Questionnaire.
 Contact Method:Personal Interview.
SAMPLE SIZE:
My sample size for this project was 200 respondents. Since it was not possible to cover
the whole universe in the available time period, it was necessary for me to take a sample size of
200 respondents.

37
LIMITATION

 Every work has its own limitation. Limitations are extent to which the process should not
exceed. Limitations of this project are:-
 The project was constrained by time limit of two months.
 Mindset of people may very depending upon their age, gender, income etc.
 Getting appointment from the concern person was very difficult.
 People mind set about the survey was an obstacle in acquiring complete information &
positive interaction.
 Respondents were very busy in their schedule. So it was very time consuming for them to
answer all the questions properly
.

38
SUGGESTIONS

Finally some recommendations for the company are as fallows:-

 To make people aware about the benefit of becoming HDFC Bank’s Sales Executive,
following activities of advertisement should be done through.
1. Print Media.
2. Hoarding & Banners.
3. Stalls in Trade Fares
4. Distribution of leaflets containing details information

The bank should provide life time valid ATM card to all its customers.
Minimum balance for savings account should be reduced from Rs 5000 to Rs
1000, so that people who are not financially strong enough can maintain their
account properly.

 The company should provide a pass book to all its customers.

 Make people understand about the various benefits of its products.
 Company should organize the program in the society, so that people will be aware
about the company and different products of the bank.
 Company should open more branches in different cities.

39
CONCLUSION
HDFC Bank, the banking arm of HDFC is expected to go on stream. The bank
already has good number of employees on board and is recruiting Sales Executives heavily to
take the headcount to many more. It is on the brim of increasing its customers through its
attractive schemes and offer.
The project opportunities provided was market segmentation and identifying prospective
customers in potential geographical location and convincing them to open an account so that new
Business Opportunities of the bank can be explored. Through this project, it could be concluded
that people are not much aware about the various products of the bank and many of them not
interested to open an account at all. services was considered as unsought good which require
hard core selling, but in changing trend in income and people becoming financially literate, the
demand for banking sector is increasing day by day. According to my findings Company’s
promotional activities for recruiting sales executives are also very less. So, at last the conclusion
is that there is tough competition ahead for the company from its major competitors in the
banking sector. Last but not the least I would like to thank HDFC Bank for giving me an
opportunity to work in the field of Marketing. I hope the company finds my analysis relevant.
