Physics 1101- Special Task

General Instructions: Solve the following Problems neatly and legibly. Write your Solutions in an
A4 size bond paper (stapled) using blue ink pen. Strictly no writing at the back of the bond paper.
All final answers should be putted inside the box.
I-Conversion of units:
a. 205km = __________m b. 2.3mi = _________ft
c. 43000tons = __________kg d. 36kg = __________lb
e. 2045slug = __________g f. 2890mi/hr = _________m/s
g. 205 m2 =__________in2 h. 26000m3 =___________L
i. 208 mL = __________oz. j. 345689 in = __________km

II- Rectilinear Motions:

1. The speed of a bullet as it travels down the barrel of a rifle toward the opening is given by

𝒗 = −𝟓𝒙𝟏𝟎𝟕 𝒕𝟐 + 𝟑𝒙𝟏𝟎𝟓 𝒕
Where v is in m/s and t is in s. The acceleration of the bullet is in the barrel.
(a) Determine the acceleration and position of the bullet as functions of time when the bullet is in the
barrel
(b) Determine the time interval over which the bullet is accelerated
(c) What is the length of the barrel?
No.2 to 4 is a Multiple choice:
2. A jet lands at 80m/s, the pilot applying the brakes 2s after the landing. Find the acceleration needed to
stop the jet within 5x102m after touchdown in m/ss.
a. -9.41 b. -8.41 c. 7.41 d. 6.41 e. None of the above
3. An experimental rocket designed to land upright falls freely from a height of 2x102m, starting at rest.
At a height of 80m, the rockets engines start and provide constant upward acceleration until the rocket
lands. What acceleration is required if the speed on touchdown is to be zero? (Neglect air resistance)
a. 13.7 m/s b. 14.7 m/s c. 15.7 m/s d. 16.7 m/s e. None of the above
4. An elevator is going up within an initial velocity of 3m/s and is accelerating constantly at a rate of
0.5m/s2. At the same instant, a ball is also dropped from a height of 50m above the elevator. How many
seconds after they started moving will the ball and the elevator meet?
a.2.18s b. 2.79s c. 3.18s d. 3.79s e. None of the above

III- Vectors
5. Given the following vectors: A= 2i-3j+5k; B=3i-2j+4k; C=2i-6j+2k, Determine:
(a) A+B+C (c) A-B+C (c) B-C (d) A+C (e) /A+B+C/
(f) /A-B+C/ (g) /B-C/ (h)/A+C/
6. Determine the magnitude and direction of the displacement if a man walks 30km North East and then
walks due to east 20km.
7. Jathniel the superhero had flown 150m at a 120 degree angle with respect to the positive x-axis. Find
the components of the displacement of the vectors. (b) Suppose instead the superhero had leaped with a
displacement having an x-component of 32.5 m and a y-component of 24.3m. Find the magnitude and
direction of the displacement vector.
