3.1 Promotion of Research


3.1.1 Is there an Institutional Research Committee which monitors and addresses issues related to research?
If yes, what is its composition? Mention a few recommendations which have been implemented and their
impact.
 Yes. There is an Institutional Research Committee (IRC) which monitors and addresses issues
related to the research.
 IRC of various faculties is responsible for the implementation of policies formulated regarding
research. It meets at least once in an academic year or as per requirement.
Major recommendations of IRC are in the following areas:
 Identification of research thrust areas;; various incentives for promoting research activities;
Regulations governing MD program;
IRCs perform the following activities related to research:
 Workshops on research methodology and
Annual Workshops on research methodology and dissertation
writing.
 Encouraging staff and students to submit project proposals to
external agencies to seek funding
Based on monitoring by IRC has resulted in the following impact:

Title – Comparative efficacy of Non nicotine replacement therapy


(Homoeopathic medicine) and Behavioural counselling on
Tobacco cessation amongst Tobacco users aged above 18 years -
Randomized controlled trial.
Results: Homoeopathy medicine along with Behavioural
counselling helped almost equal no of participants to quit the habit
followed by reduction in the frequency of Tobacco consumption
and tobacco dependancy score as compared to placebo along with
behavioural counselling at six and twelfth months.

Extension Activities and Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR)

3.6.1-How does the institution sensitize its faculty and students on its Institutional
Social Responsibilities? List the social outreach programs which have created an
impact on students’ campus experience during the last four years?
 The institution is committed to realize its social responsibility
through meaningful and purposeful extension and outreach activities. The
curriculum is implemented in such a way that it sensitizes faculty and
students for their institutional and social responsibilities.

 The extension programmes achieve goals and objectives such as


systematic training of students and systematic extension activities with
reference to health care and community development. Important strategies
and systems include the following:
 Diagnostic Health Camps in
rural/urban/slums/schools/orphanages/remand homes.
 Health awareness and sensitization programmes (lectures, role
plays, exhibition, rallies, placards, pamphlets) - laminated posters of
different National Health Programmes are distributed & displayed in the
college OPD campus as well as different departments.

 Participation and observation of important health-related days,
National health programs. (Yearly calendar is implemented with different
activities.)
 Dr. D. Y. Patil Homoeopathic medical college has a unit of
National Service Scheme (NSS). This unit conducts extension activities
regularly. NSS Committee is constituted as per the guidelines of the
Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India, New Delhi and duly
approved by the Government of Maharashtra. Activities under the unit
have created impact on students’ campus experience.
 Recently the department of community medicine has performed
the extension activity “SwachhBharath and SwasthBharath according to
guidelines from AYUSH, the college has adopted five colonies for this
activity and arranges lectures, health checkups camps for the same.”.

 The institutions engages students in various activities like celebration of
various WHO Health related days, world health day, world homoeopathy
day and in various NSS activities to promote citizenship role. Students
also are encouraged to participate in National Health Programmes
including Immunization drives. The NSS unit monitors the participation of
students in all various activities.

 The NSS unit of the institute organizes NSS camps in rural areas. During
these camps various activities are conducted like medical camps, school

 Hon. President of Dr. D. Y. PatilVidyapratishthan society, Pune,


Dr. P. D. Patil received PimpriChinchwadBhushanPuraskar 2014 for
outstanding work in community development and education. He also
award from Trishakti Foundation, Pune as ‘Eminent Educationist’ in 2014.

 As a Homoeopathic Medical college recognized by AYUSH ,
institute is serving as an excellent centre for creation of
awareness regarding AYUSH system of medicine through

Physiotherapy are made available within the campus.
 Pharmacoeconomic evaluation in drug utilization

 Participation in National Health programs like Family Welfare, Mother
and Child Welfare, Population control, Immunization, HIV AIDS,

 Community Medicine department is involved in National Health
Programmes such as Family welfare, Mother and Child welfare,
Population control (imparting education about various methods of
contraception and providing information on choices for
contraception)
 Promotion of mental health and prevention of substance abuse.

gathering of the college.
