Design
Lecture-based Subject matter is largely determined by text books or
learning chapters that need to be learned.
Lecturers explain and clarify the content in lectures.
Tutorials are used to deepen the knowledge acquired,
clarify problems and provide feedback on assignments.
An examination at the end of the semester assesses
students understanding of the lecture material.
Resource-based Guided self-study through assignments. Assignments
learning are discussed in small groups

Mastery based Students regulate their own learning to achieve pre-


learning determined learning goals. Professional development
planning.
Problem-based Students work in small groups to understand, explain
learning and solve problems. A tutorial group analyses the
problem and identifies learning objectives. A period of
independent study after which students report their
learning. Students are guided by a tutor who assists with
group processes.
Project-Centred Authentic, real-life tasks are derived from professional
learning practice. Students work on the project in small groups or
in parallel. Regular meetings with teacher. Outcomes of
the process are reported back to the whole group of
students.

Work-based learning Students combine university learning with learning from


practice

Self-directed learning Students set their own topic areas and undertake a
project with teacher supervision.
Learner-Centred Educators feel the students may be able to make more
designs informed decisions, such as Masters programs and in
Adult Education programs.
Outcome Based Outcomes based education is a student centered, results
Curriculum oriented design premised on the belief that all individuals
can learn

The Experiential Belief in importance of personal relevance and learning


Model from experience.
Social Critical Model Content drawn from significant social problems of the
day.
Deliberative model The model suggest a deliberative process whereby the
educators make known their ideas to the students and
together plan an educational journey, constantly feeding
back and adjusting this plan.
Post-positivism They advocate less intervention by educators, even
models advocating chaos to occur in order that order may result.
Product Model Plans and intentions, used of behavioral languages,
making assessments precise and structure.
Process Model Learning activities, student’s choice, and environment,
social and life skills.
