and, at the same time, he makes the Sign of the Cross on the book and on his forehead, lips, and breast.
10
The people acclaim: Glory to you, O Lord.
A
Then the Deacon, or the presider, incenses the book, if incense is used, and proclaims the Gospel.
11
Prayer of the Faithful
From the chair, the presider initiates the general intercessions
The gospel story of the rich young man tells us he went away sad,
unable to take the next step. We too come to the Lord, part of us
willing, part of us reluctant. We ask Him to look with love on our
petitions. As we pray: Lord, we ask you, hear our prayer.
The petitions are announced from the ambo.
1. For our ordained ministers raised up by God with the power and insight to
liberate His people from sin and its oppression of the human heart, that
they may be firm and steadfast in their mission to be servant-leaders. We
pray.
2. As we end the year dedicated to our clergy and consecrated persons, who
have given up everything to follow Jesus, that the promised hundredfold
joy may be their portion along with eternal life. We pray.
3. For vocations, that in the year-long celebration of the Year of the Youth,
upright young men and women who wish to be perfect may accept the grace
and invitation generously sell what they have and come to follow only Jesus
with their whole hearts in their lives. We pray.
4. For the rich, wealthy and the powerful of this world, who have the hardest
time of entering the kingdom of heaven, that by God’s power their hearts
may be softened in compassion and generosity. We pray.
5. For all of us, rich or poor, may we have the wisdom to know what really
matters. May all of us be free from enslavement to possessions. Whatever
our circumstances, may we be true to Christ and true to ourselves. We pray.
6. For all the faithful who have asked our prayers who are experiencing times
of stress and the overflow of deep waters in sickness, unemployment, grief,
distress and any hardships, that the Lord may take pity in their affliction.
We pray.
7. For our beloved dead, who wish to gain eternal life, that our prayers and
this Holy Sacrifice may hasten their purification and bring them rejoicing
into God’s presence. We pray.

The presider concludes

The Liturgy of the Eucharist
When all this has been done, the Offertory Chant begins. Meanwhile, the ministers place the corporal, the purificator,
the chalice, the pall, and the Missal on the altar.
It is desirable that the faithful express their participation by making an offering, bringing forward bread and wine for
the celebration of the Eucharist and perhaps other gifts to relieve the needs of the Church and of the poor.
the presider, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both
hands, saying in a low voice:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness we have received
the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
it will become for us the bread of life.
Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal.
The Deacon, or the presider, pours wine and a little water into the chalice, saying quietly:
By the mystery of this water and wine
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
the presider then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation,
for through your goodness we have received
the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands,
it will become our spiritual drink.
Then he places the chalice on the corporal.
After this, the presider, bowing profoundly, says quietly:
With humble spirit and contrite heart
may we be accepted by you, O Lord,
and may our sacrifice in your sight this day
be pleasing to you, Lord God.
If appropriate, he also incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. A Deacon or other minister then incenses the
presider and the people.
Then the presider, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands, saying quietly:
Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
14
Prayer over the Offerings
Standing at the middle of the altar, facing the people, extending and then joining his hands, he says:
L
Then the presider, with hands extended, says the Prayer over the Offerings.
Amen.
15
Eucharistic Prayer
Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with your spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
The people: It is right and just.
Preface VIII of Sunday in Ordinary Time: The Church united by the unity of the Trinitys

The presider, with hands extended, continues the Preface.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER III
The Priest, with hands extended, says:
18
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and genuflects in adoration.
After this, he continues:
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
19
Then the Priest, with hands extended, says: Celebrant with concelebrants
20
May this Sacrifice of our reconciliation, Celebrant or one concelebrant
we pray, O Lord,
advance the peace and salvation of all the world.
Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity
your pilgrim Church on earth,
with your servant Francis our Pope and Honesto our Bishop,
the Order of Bishops, all the clergy,
and the entire people you have gained for your own.
Listen graciously to the prayers of this family,
whom you have summoned before you:
In your compassion, O merciful Father,
gather to yourself all your children
scattered throughout the world.
Celebrant or one concelebrant
To our departed brothers and sisters
and to all who were pleasing to you
at their passing from this life,
give kind admittance to your kingdom.
There we hope to enjoy for ever the fullness of your glory
He joins his hands.
Amen.
21
The Communion Rite
The Lord’s Prayer
After the chalice and paten have been set down, the presider, with hands joined, says:
O
He extends his hands and, together with the people, continues:
22
Rite of Peace
Then the presider, with hands extended, says aloud:
Amen.
the presider, turned towards the people, extending and then joining his hands, adds:
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
The invocation may even be repeated several times if the fraction is prolonged. Only the final time, however, is grant
us peace said.
23
Then the presider, with hands joined, says quietly:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
who, by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit,
through your Death gave life to the world,
free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil;
keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.
Or:
May the receiving of your Body and Blood,
Lord Jesus Christ,
not bring me to judgment and condemnation,
but through your loving mercy
be for me protection in mind and body
and a healing remedy.
Communion
the presider genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or above the chalice, while facing
the people, says aloud:
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
And together with the people he adds once:
24
Prayer after Communion
Then, standing at the altar or at the chair and facing the people, with hands joined, the presider says:
Let us pray.
All pray in silence with the presider for a while, unless silence has just been observed. Then the presider, with hands

extended, says the Prayer after Communion.
God, who constantly feed and strengthen the Church
with your Sacraments,
grant to us,
who have been nourished at the heavenly table,
that, by obeying your teachings of love,
we may become for the human family
a life-giving leaven and a means to salvation.
Through Christ our Lord.
The people acclaim:
Amen.
