CHURCH REVITALIZATION by Dr. Mark Berry District Superintendent

Dr. Mark D. Berry
On January 25-26, district pastors and lay leaders gathered at the Millbrook District Office:
Church of the Nazarene to learn ways to revitalize our churches. 60 were in P.O. Box 680898
attendance with 25 churches represented. Rev. George Yates of SonCare Prattville, AL 36068
Ministries gave us great information to assist churches to move to the next Phone 334.365.3188
www.alabamasouth.org
level in reaching more people for Christ.
The question was asked, "Do we want to get well as a church?" taken from the scriptures in John
5:6, "When Jesus saw him [an invalid] lying there and learned that he had been in this condition
for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" Sometimes churches get "stuck" in a
place where there are no longer conversions and the church is in decline. Apathy sets in and we
tend to deal with the symptoms and not the cause of decline. Pastors learned what
it takes to have a vision for a growing and vibrant church. We sense a new
awareness and urgency on our district
to reach more people for Christ. Reaching the Summit - January 2019
Let's pray for God to move us from a
heart of compassion into action so Rev. George Yates
that we will be a Great Commission SonCare Ministries

Church.

ANNOUNCING THE THEME FOR THE 2019 DISTRICT ASSEMBLY AND CONVENTIONS

This year’s theme is "Moved from Compassion into Action”. Throughout Jesus’ ministry he was moved
within his soul for the lost and hurting. Last year’s assembly emphasized the theme of “Moved with
Compassion”. If there was one thing we can learn about Jesus is that compassion moved him to action.
He healed the sick and met the needs. It is our prayer that our assembly will birth new ministries of
compassion throughout South Alabama. There will be opportunity to learn what your church can do to
move into action in meeting the needs in your community.
