1 Introduction
The following calculations cover the as built hoarding, which is to facilitate site demarcation at May Day Barnsley.
The calculations within are based on the typical arrangement of the greatest span / length/ loads. Any spans /
lengths / loads of a lesser value are covered within this document.
Figure 1 – Showing a cross section of the hoarding, showing the lever arm used.

5.1 Dead loads
– see leg loads below In accordance with section 3.1 component properties.
– dead load of scaffold refer to section 6 – design checks.
5.2 Live loads
5.2.1 Wind loads
In accordance with BS EN 1994‐1‐4: 2005
refer to section 6.1
6.1 Wind Calculations
Table 1 – Showing the wind pressure acting on the hoarding.
Figure 2 – Showing the layout of the hoarding dimensions.
6.3 Sliding Coefficient
The sliding coefficient is to be taken as concrete on tarmac which gives a static friction coefficient of 0.4. Static
friction coefficient was obtained from BS 5975:2008+A1:2011 table 24 and BS EN 12812:2008, Annex B, Table B.1.
