SPS FORMAT

1.Copy the binout into binraw and binmod folders respectively, X, R, S.


2 Open the S,R, and X files in the binmod folder with WordPad.
…Delete the headers, save and close.
…Save as S,R, & X files with their respective SPS extension.
E.g:SPSr 160610---- SPSr 160610.rps (no space)
SPSs 160610----SPSs 160610.sps
SPSx 160610---SPSX 160610.xps
3.Close the binmod folder.
4. Launch the SPS suite.
5.Load the S, R and X files in the binmod using the browser. The 3 files can be
loaded at the same time by selecting them together ( CTRL + Mouse selection)
6. Select view SPS button to display the S,R, and X files.
7. Edit your files by deleting bad , dummy,line breaks records.Correct wrong
header,etc.
….To identify the record you want to edit.
a) Click the search menu in the displayed X and select find. Since the QC log
by the platform seismologist only logged FFID , select Tape and FFID and
enter the values in the displayed search dialogue box and OK.( In the X
file, the tape no. is no. the proceed the identifier. X 33-----Tape no.)
b) Identify the bad FFID and its corresponding source line, shot point and
point index. Go to the S file, check search/find and enter the values and
OK.
c) Delete the highlighted record in S file and save (file---save).Go back the X
file and delete the highlighted bad record and save.(file---save)
d) Repeat steps A to C until all editing is completed.
e) Save your work. Import the X, Y coordinates and surface elevation
from UP1 file that has been QC by you.

a) Open your saved edited S, R and X from view SPS button.

b) In the displayed S file window click file menu and select import. A
dialogue window will pop –up.

c) Using open button, select the file(e.g the UPI file) that contains the actual
coordinates ( click all files in file type to enable you see the file)

d) Since you don`t have a configuration file. Ignore the open or “save as”
button and go straight to import format and select fixed column.

e) Go to the tabulated field section and do the following.

-----Highlight or select 2 or 3 SPS field in the KEY that is present in the two
files e.g line number and station number. Check their column definition in the file
you want to import from and enter the values to “Col from and COL. TO” (E.G if
you are importing from UP1 file, line no. is from 18 to 21 while station no. is from
22 to 25)

Select the SPS field you want to update or import in the UPDATE column e.g X
coordinate, Y coordinate, surface elevation etc. Check their column definition in
the file want to import from and enter the values to “Col from and Col TO”(E.g if
you are importing from a UP1 file X coordinate is from 48 - 55, Y coordinate is
from 57-64, and elevation. 66-70.

….Click “ save as” to this configuration and give it name to be next time you are
importing from a UP1 file.

d) Click import. TheUPDATE is saved in your folder with file type extension .SO1
or SO2 or SO3 or SO4 for source. And .RO1 or RO2 or RO3 or RO4 for receiver.
(i.e if you update file SPSs 160610. SPS its saved automatically after the update
as SPSs 160610.SO1)

10) Repeat step 8b to d for your receiver file to import the actual coordinate.
11) Load the new file with extension .SO1, RO1 and XPS into SPS suite.
12) Run your QC checks and do your correction where needed.
13) Give your SPS file for LMO processor.
14). For each day`s production, merge your file with the previous day and run your
QC checks.
15) Be careful when merging receiver file in order not to repeat or duplicate the
receiver stations.

OTHER POINTS TO CONSIDER


A. EDITING SPS: Open the source and relations in wordpad and save as .sps and
.xps respectively.
B. DELETING BAD SHOTS: Click view. Go to command bar. Highlight the
rows to delete. Click delete for rows or cut for columns.
C. EDITING WRONG HEADERS: highlight columns to edit. Go to edit. Click
on Batch Input Fixed Value for one column. Go to save.
D. TO REPLACE (OR UPDATE) DATA:
a) Open the file you want to copy from (which is your DATABASE)
b) SORT in a pattern you want e.g. SL & SP or Julian date, etc.
c) Go to edit. Connect data file (to data block). Super renew.
d) Open the file you want to compare with (ie DATA 2)
e) Sort DATA 2 as you have in DATABASE by: highlight column you want
to sort and then go to edit and Ascend/descent
f) Click the items you want to update/renew and highlight them.
g) Go to replace. Replay all file.
h) To get the points without the actual coordinates: highlight the elevation
column. Sort in ascending or descending order. Pick out points with 0 or
999 elevation.

SUMMARY IN GENERATING DAILY SPS:


1. For source, after deleting bad, etc, turn the Point Index (PI) to 1.
2. In source, sort day and time in ascending order. To do this, go to View,
Command bar and click Z TO A.
3. save.
4. For x-file, highlight all column from FTapN to the last column and then sort
Z TO A.
5. Turn the PI to 1. To do this: Highlight the column. Go to Edit. Go to Batch
Input Fixed Value for one column. Type 1.
6. While x-file is opened, go to Check. Go to Source file and Relation file.
Call in your s-file.
7. After getting the receiver, then change the respective file name with the
extension .01
8. Then load into OMNI.

GENERATING REMAINING SHOTS USING SPSMS:


1. You need 2 datas to use in “TO REPLACE (OR UPDATE) DATA section
as stated above. They are: binin source and the binout sps you’ve worked
on with spsms.
2. The file you’ll open in the Super Renew will be binout source.
3. The item to click to update/renew will be Record day and Record time.
4. Highlight Day and RTime column in spsms and go to View, Command Bar
and A-Z
5. Delete the shots that have been updated in the binin with day and time.
You’ll be left with shots without Record day and time. This is the
outstanding shots.
6. Save as the remaining shots
