General TheairframefuelsystemoftheBK117C-2isdividedintofour subsystems

Fuel Storage System

The fuel storage system consists of:

--fuel supply tanks

--FWD main tank

--aft main tank.

Fuel Supply and Feed System

The fuel supply and feeds y stem consists of:

--equipment plates with fuel transfer, prime and jet pumps

--fuel feed lines

--fuel supply lines

--shut-off valves

--fuel return lines.

Fuel Vent System

The fuel vent system consists of:

--fuel vent lines

--refueling vent line

--fuel expansion box

Fuel Monitoring System

The fuel monitoring system consists of:

--fuel quantity indication on the CAD

--low fuel warning

--jet pump caution

--fuel pressure caution

--fuel filter contamination caution

--fuel flow system.

All systems will be described in detail.


FuelStorageSystem

General

TheBK117C-2hasfourfuelcells,incorporatedinthreefueltanks.
TheyareflexiblebagtanksmadeofKevlarfabriccoatedonbothsides withpolyurethane.

Location

Thetanksarearrangedonebehindtheotherandlocatedunderneath
thelargefloorboardextendingfromSTA3125toSTA5645.Looking
fromfronttorearthetanksarearrangedasfollows:

--LHandRHsupplytank

--FWDmaintank

--Aftmaintank.

TankInstallation

ButterflyVelcrostrips,bondedtothetopsideofthetankandtothe
undersideofthecabinfloorattachthetanktothecabinfloor.

TankFlanges

Thebottomsideofthetankcellsareequippedwithmountingflanges
toaccepttheequipmentplates.Theseflangesareboltedtothelower
shellandpositionthetankonitslowerside.
SupplyTank

Thesupplytankisseparatedbyabulkheadintotwocompartments.
Eachcompartmentcomprisesoneequipmentplate.

FWDMainTank

TheFWDmaintankisconnectedtothesupplytanksbytwooverflows
whichareinstalledatdifferentheightstoachievedifferentvolumesof
thesupplytankstoavoidsimultaneousflameoutofbothengines.On
itsleftsidethefillerneckisinstalled.TheFWDmaintankisprovided withtwoequipmentplates.

AftMainTank

TheaftmaintankisconnectedtotheFWDmaintankbytwoupperand
onelowerinterconnectingtubes.Theaftmaintankisprovidedwith oneequipmentplate.

FuelCapacity

Thetotalcapacity(usable)ofallthreetanksis694.0kg(867.5ltr.).This amountisdividedasfollows:

--maintank593.2kg(741.5ltr.)includinguppersupply tankvolume

--supplytankLH47.2kg(59.0ltr.)

--supplytankRH53.6kg(67.0ltr.).

FuelVentSystem General Thetaskofthefuelventsystemistokeepthetanksunpressurized


underalloperationconditions. FuelVentLines
Thefuelventtubes,whichareanintegralpartofthefloorpanelare
connectedtotheventportsofthetanksbyboltsthroughthefloor
panel.Eachtankisprovidedwithtwoventportsconnectedtothefloor
panelviaflexiblehoses.Therightintegratedventtubeisroutedover
thecabinceilingtotheleftoverboardventportviaaflexiblehose.
Theleftintegratedventtubeisinterconnectedwiththeexpansionbox viaaflexiblehose.
RefuelingVentLine Duringrefuelingtheairinthetankisbledthroughtheventportsofthe
tankaswellasthroughtherefuelingventlineroutedfromtheforward
endofthesupplytanktothefillerneck.OneAirNo--fuelvalveis
integratedintherefuelingventlineintheareaoftheFWDmaintank.
TherisingfuellevelintheFWDmaintankcausestheballmechanism
ofthisvalvetocloseandonlythesupplytankisvented.

FuelExpansionBox Ontheleftsideofthefuselage,belowtheFWDpassengerwindow,the
fuelexpansionboxisinstalled.Thisexpansionboxisconnectedtothe
leftfuelventlineandallowsthefuelofacompletelyrefueledhelicopter
toexpandifthetemperaturerises.Theexpansionboxisventilatedvia
aflexiblehoseroutedoverthecabinceilingtotherightoverboardvent port.

!NOTEAllflexiblehoseswithinthecabinareroutedwithin
asecond,protectinghose.Whereastheexternal hosesaredrainedoverboardviaseparatedports.
