or between aircraft and ground stations. The HF COM system operates
in the HF radio band from 2.0000 to 29.9999 MHz. The system uses
the AM (Amplitude Modulation) methods and operates in the simplex
mode on one frequency or in the split mode with separate transmit and
receive frequencies.
BEFORE USING, MAKE SURE THIS HARD COPY IS THE LATEST ISSUE.
A dedicated HF control panel, installed on pilot’s side, allows frequency
tuning, controls, and indications. The HF receiver/exciter contains an
exciter, which produces a very low power signal, which is fed to the HF
power amplifier. The HF receiver/exciter handles system control
communication, control emission modes, and control transmission
power.

The audio related to the HF COM system is managed by both the pilot

audio panel 2 is digitally routed to audio panel 1, which, in turn, delivers
the signal to the HF receiver/exciter. • HF antenna adapter (AMM MPP 23-11-05/400)
Four methods of noise reduction (squelch) are available in the system, • HF antenna (AMM MPP 23-11-06/400)

The HF receiver/exciter contains an exciter, which produces a very low
power level RF (Radio Frequency) signal, which is delivered to the HF
power amplifier. Such excitation signal is amplified by the HF power
amplifier. The amplified signal is then routed to the HF antenna coupler,
which matches the antenna impedance (which varies according to the
frequency) to the 50Ω output of the transmitter. In the receive mode,
signal from the antenna passes through the antenna coupler to the
receiver/exciter via the HF power amplifier.
Before the first transmission on each selected frequency, the system
performs a tuning cycle to match the antenna impedance. An aural
indication of the tune cycle is annunciated by a 1000Hz tone, until the
process is complete. The duration of the tuning cycle is typically about
50ms, for a previously tuned frequency, and may vary from 2s to 10s
for a frequency not previously tuned.
The HF antenna coupler is pressurized with nitrogen to prevent internal
arcing in high altitude environments, as the RF matching networks
