bonds, compare after-tax returns.
• Let t be the investor’s marginal tax rate
• Let r be the before-tax return on the taxable
bond and rm denote the municipal bond rate.
• Investors prefer the taxable bond rate if

Equity Securities
• Common stock: Ownership
– Residual claim
