1 Lower anchor
1. Use disconnection device to engage windlass.
2. Release spindle band brake of windlass.

!
When the anchor is heaved into the anchor pocket with full power, the anchor
pocket puts extreme strain on the winch drive when stopping.
Reel in the anchor at a low heaving speed and stop the drive immediately once the
anchor pocket is reached!
3. Heave anchor into anchor pocket.
4. Tighten windlass brake to maximum braking power.
5. Check that the pawl is lifted up completely.
6. Loosen the lashing device.
7. Take the lashing rope out of the lashing device and the anchor chain.

Figure 2: chain stopper in lowering position

8. Use the disconnection device to disengage the windlass.

!
If the chain is lowered too quickly, the centrifugal force lifts the chain links in the
cable lifter of the windlass.
The chain may only be lowered at a speed, at which the chain links are still guided
in the cable lifter.
Only slightly release the spindle band brake to begin with. Only increase the chain
speed very gradually by slightly loosening the spindle band brake. Ensure the
chain is being guided in the cable lifter!
9. Slightly release the windlass brake, and lower the anchor.

10. Once sufficient anchor chain has been lowered, tighten the windlass brake
to maximum braking force.

Pawl

Horizontal chain link

Frame

Figure 3: pawl inserted correctly

11. Flip pawl down.

The pawl must lie completely on the frame in front of a horizontal chain link.

Figure 4: pawl applied to horizontal chain link

Figure 5: pawl applied to vertical chain link

If the pawl is applied to a chain link, correct the location of the chain. There
are two options here:

Anchor Manoeuvres for Anchor Equipment
with Roller Chain Stopper

• Very slightly release the windlass brake and lower the anchor chain
until the pawl slides in front of a horizontal chain link. Then tighten the
windlass brake to maximum braking power.
or
• Use the disconnection device to engage the windlass. Very slightly
release the windlass brake and mechanically heave the anchor chain
until the pawl slides in front of a horizontal chain link. Then tighten the
windlass brake to maximum braking force, before using the
disconnection device to uncouple the windlass.

2 Hoist anchor

Figure 7: chain stopper in clamping position

1. Use disconnection device to engage windlass.
2. Release windlass brake.
3. Briefly hoist the anchor chain mechanically until the strain is removed from
the pawl and the pawl can be raised.
4. Tighten windlass brake to maximum braking power.
5. Lift up pawl.

Figure 8: chain stopper in hoisting position

6. Release windlass brake.

Anchor Manoeuvres for Anchor Equipment
with Roller Chain Stopper

!
When the anchor is hoisted into the anchor pocket with full power, the anchor
pocket puts extreme strain on the drive when stopping.
In front of the anchor pocket reel in the anchor at a low heaving speed and stop the
drive immediately once the anchor pocket is reached!
7. Hoist anchor into anchor pocket.
8. Tighten windlass brake to maximum braking power.
9. Pull the lashing rope through a chain link and fix it in the lashing device.
10. Pull the wire rope using the lashing device until the anchor lies in the anchor
pocket.

!
When the pawl is inserted in this position, it is subjected to the weight of the anchor
and the anchor chain. In this case, it can no longer be released manually. It is no
longer possible to perform an emergency anchor manoeuvre.
Do not put strain on the pawl when the anchor has been hoisted!
!
Once the anchor has been hoisted, the weight of the anchor and the anchor chain
is not taken up by the pawl.
For safety reasons, leave the spindle band brake tightened to maximum braking
force if the lashing device is faulty!

• Look for damaged mechanical, hydraulic or electric components and

connections and tighten, repair or replace before starting up.
• Check safety equipment visually. Don't start the deck machinery with
defective or inoperative safety equipment!
• Look around the deck machinery for debris that could interfere with the
operation and remove before starting up.

• Look for misalignment of rods, brackets, arms, pivots, etc.. Repair as

needed.
• Check all components for the security of their installation, such as loose
bolts, worn / frail wiring, etc.. Tighten fasteners, repair wiring, etc., as
required.
• Check safety equipment and alarms are functioning properly, and provide
proof.
• Inspect structural members for corrosion, rust, cracks, or pitting of the
surface. Clean rust or corroded surface down to bare metal and refinish
using rust inhibitive base coat, followed with the three coat paint system and
final colour coat.
Pay Attention!
Welding only after consulting HATLAPA service department! Cracks may be
welded if such repair will not affect equipment’s capability.
Check especially protection of steel band on spindle band brake against corrosion
by being painted.
• Check bearings for wear and replace as required.
• Check electrical system for security, breakage and deterioration. Repair or
replace as needed.
