* Recommended maximum setting force limited by standard release stud value, or published limit of tool. This is not the tensile limit of tool.
** For WLPSAs, no simple relationship exists for setting stroke versus setting force, therefore, max. setting force may not occur at maximum setting stroke.

SPECIAL NOTE:Always refer to specific tech unit of both the setting tool and of the seal bore type packer to determine actual running procedures and specific requirements. This chart is for reference only and is not a controlled document.

Electric Wireline Type
Features/ Benefits
• Both the setting tool and adapter kit are retrieved once
the packer is set
Applications/ Procedures
• PRINCIPLE DESIGN - The setting tool converts gas pressure from the
combustion of a Power Charge into a linear force. This force is conveyed to
the tool being set through a Wireline Adapter Kit, which connects the "E-4" to
that particular tool.
• OPERATION - Before you run an "E-4", you need to have a good estimate
of the well temperature at setting depth. After proper assembly of the "E-4",
oil is installed into the upper cylinder. Using an "E-4" dipstick, or a ruler, and
the chart in the Tech Unit, fill the Cylinder with clean SAE 10-40 motor oil to
the proper level for your setting temperature. A wireline adapter kit is made
up on the lower end of the "E-4". Adapter kits are available for each size
Retainer Production Packer, Cement Retainer, Bridge Plug, or Retrievable
Bridge Plug to be set. Insert the proper Power Charge into the top of the "E-
4" with the open end up.
WARNING: Even though two Power Charges may fit into the setting
tool, never install more than one Power Charge as injury or damage to
the tool could result.
A cartridge seat is installed into the Size 10 & 20 Product No. 437-20 Firing
Heads, and mated to the top end of the "E-4". Prior to screwing the cartridge
seat into the firing head, the cartridge seat is loaded with an ignitor and
secondary ignitor. The ignitor is placed into the top of the cartridge seat and
secured with a cartridge seat cap. A secondary ignitor is inserted into the
bottom of the cartridge seat and secured by a snap ring. The 05 size (Product
No. 437-21) cartridge seat is installed into the "E-4" prior to the firing head
being secured. The E-line operator should check his Firing Head for
continuity, and make up the "E-4" to the Firing Head. Check that the Bleeder
Valve is seated tightly before running in the hole.

MODEL "E-4" WIRELINE PRESSURE SETTING ASSEMBLY
Applications/ Procedures
To fire the setting tool, a 1 amp minimum current is put down the E-line,
through the Firing Head, to the Ignitor. The Ignitor is similar to a 38 caliber
cartridge. When it fires it lights the Secondary Ignitor, which burns and drops
hot metallic particles onto the Power Charge to ignite it. The Slow Set Power
Charge has a wafer of additional Secondary Ignitor material glued to its top to
provide additional heat needed to light the Slow Set Power Charge. The
Power Charge contains an Oxidizer so that it can burn without the need for an
external oxygen source. As it burns, the temperature and pressure increase in
the pressure chamber, forcing the Floating Piston downward. This forces the
oil through the orifice in the Connector, and pushes the Lower Piston
downward. This downward force is transferred through the Piston Rod and
Cross Link to the Cross Link Sleeve. The Cross Link Sleeve pushes down on
the Setting Sleeve of the Wireline Adapter Kit, until enough force is
transferred to the product being set to shear free from it. The Power charge
will burn faster as temperature and pressure increase in the Pressure
Chamber. For wells with elevated temperatures at setting depth, and for
setting tools that have many moving parts, a Slow Set Power Charge is
always recommended. When in doubt, run a Slow Set Power Charge.
CAUTION: After firing, gas under very high pressure is trapped inside
the setting tools. NO DISASSEMBLY SHOULD BE ATTEMPTED
UNTIL THIS GAS IS RELEASED.
To bleed off the gas pressure, lay the "E-4" down in a well ventilated area,
with the Bleeder Valve port pointed in a safe direction, away from any
personnel. Using an Bleeder Valve Wrench, slowly open the Bleeder Valve
by backing out the Stem. When the gas starts to vent out of the port, open the
valve a little more and let the gas vent until all pressure has been released.
This gas is the product of combustion and should not be breathed. If the
Bleeder Valve cannot be opened, pressure can be vented by backing the Top
Pressure Chamber from the Bleeder Valve Connector until the trapped gas
pressure begins to vent through the weep hole in the bottom end of the

MODEL "E-4" WIRELINE PRESSURE SETTING ASSEMBLY
Applications/ Procedures
• REDRESS - Always change all o-rings after each run. If well fluid leaks into
the Pressure Chamber or Upper Cylinder, the tool may preset. If fluid leaks
into the Lower Cylinder, the tool may not set and may damage the "E-4" when
it fires. Redress should be done ASAP, due to the corrosiveness of
combustible products used. Combustible products left in the tool will cause
pitting rapidly. Many times wireline operators will "short stroke" an "E-4"
when several runs are required in succession. When they "short stroke" the
tool, they simply force the Cross Link Sleeve back up as far as it will go,
replace the o-rings in the Bleeder Valve, load new Power Charges, and run the
setting tool again. We do not recommend this procedure, and strongly suggest
that the "E-4" be completely redressed after each run. Have more than one
"E-4" if you have more than one tool to set.
• RATINGS - The standard size #10 and #20 "E-4" Wireline Pressure Setting
Assemblies are rated for 15,000 psi hydrostatic, while the standard size #05 is
rated for 27,000 psi hydrostatic. Heavy duty size #10 and #20 tools are
available with 30,000 psi and 25,000 psi respectively. Slow Set Power
Charges are rated to 400° F. Consult the Tech Unit for temperature ratings
using standard power charges. Force output ratings are 55,000 lbs for the size
#20; 33,000 lbs for the #10; and 7,000 lbs for the size #05. Competitors who
use the "E-4" to set their equipment are responsible for testing the
compatibility of the "E-4" to their equipment.

Tubing Mounted Type
Features/ Benefits
Applications/ Procedures
• OPERATION Attach the tool to be set to the Model J using the same Wireline
Adapter Kit that would be used with a Model "E-4" WLPSA. Run in the hole to
setting depth. The tubing will fill through a port in the Top Sub. A 1-7/16"
Kirksite Ball is pumped down the tubing to seat on the Support Sleeve. 1,000 psi
will shear the shear screws allowing the Support Sleeve to close off the ports in
the Top Sub and diverts the setting pressure to the pistons. The setting force is
transferred through the Piston Rods, Cross Link, Cross Link Sleeve, and Setting
Sleeve to set the tool. When the maximum setting pressure allowed is reached,
and additional setting force is still needed, consult the Tech Unit chart for the
amount of upstrain to apply to shear off of the tool. When the setting tool strokes
all the way out, port are uncovered by the Top Piston allowing the tubing string to
drain while being pulled.
CAUTION: Set down weight should not be applied once the tool has been
released from the tool being set or damage could result to the Release Sleeve of
the Wireline Adapter Kit.
