Smith , Nanci. “Ten Tips to Engage Students With Math.” Corwin Connect , 19 Jan. 2019,

.corwin-connect.com/2018/01/ten-tips-engage-studeNews, U.S. Best High

School . U.S

In this website, Nanci Smith has expressed that math can easily be

switched to a fun

academic game, in which can be a game that is memorable to students and easy. Following

this reading Smith had showed plenty ways of have games and other ways to engage students

to math by the idea of the 2009 Gallop poll which showed the percentages of the increase of

engagment and knowldge given to the students. Basically Smith has found ways to engage

the students to math that have trouble with math to where they have minnie flash cards and

on them they have equations but they have been broken down by step. So when they go

through the cards they have fully solved the problem without thinking to much about it.

Based of my capstone this website is useful to understand how to break down hard problems

to students and how to get their attention to enjoy the math lesson that will be taught to have

a better chance to score in a mth test.

In this database, by U.S News & World Report has the reports of math percentages of the

whole Riverside Unified School District which states in what place poly high lands with

every high school. In the database they used all of 2018 scores in highschools and put it on a

graph to where they land with all the scores they had gotten. Based of the data we are in third

lowest in the RUSD which we are not ranked in any ways in the world. This data analysis I

have done has brought to my attention that it is important to bring students back to math. In

ways of having fun and interacting activities which they can learn more.

“10 Reasons Why Math Is Important In Life.” Pi Day,August 16 2018 www.piday.org/2018/10-

reasons-why-math-is-important-in-life/.

In this website, known by Piday has exquisitly shown that math is valuable on a everyday

basis wether you know your using it or not. The unknown writer of this website has used

Dr.Tanya Evans from Stanford University which has much credibility to the work thst was

known in the writting. It had backen up the thesis well with 10 reason on why math is

important to everyone and is used on the daily. It had brought up many points of adult life on

how it is used to pay all your finiancial things. This is useful to me because there might be a

student that questions me on why I am spending time teaching math instead of going out

having fun with friends and I will be able to tell them the meaning behind I am there to help

and why it is useful later in life.

In this newspaper, The Washington Post explores the reason on why math is so difficult

to others. The article contains information of an Psychologist Daniel Willingham which had

studies reason on why math can be a big down fall to people and the reason why they lose

interest in something so important. Math is a big problem based off of a article that David

Geary has written that many people wittness the fundamental dificit in the representations of

numerosity. And on how the building of the numerosity is at a delay of growing so that

means many humans are slow to understanding the math problems. This is informative to me

because it now explained on why people are so slow at solving. Even in my current day in

math class i notice that people are very slow and I have no patience with them because they

slow down the class.

Cox, Janelle. “5 Teaching Strategies That Make Math Interesting.” TeachHUB, 2019,

www.teachhub.com/5-teaching-strategies-make-math-interesting.

In this article, 5 teaching strategies that make math interesting by Janelle Cox shows ways to

change teachings around to make students comprehend the material. Cox is a personal educator

that knows much about the statistics that go around about math. In the reading it tells me that 1

out 10 students say that they hate math and it is very difficult for them which is a very high

percentage to have. This is useful to my capstone because it warns me of what percentage I will

deal with that might won’t understand the material. In which means I am going to need to spend

more time with them and go step to step with them.
