Energy
PA Academic Standards:
3.2.3.4B

Grade:
3rd

Instructional Goals:
• Identify and classify objects and materials that are
conductors or insulators of electricity

• Identify and classify objects and materials as magnetic or

non-magnetic
Electromagnet Power!!
This is the last lesson in a 3 part unit. The lesson will take 2 days to
complete.

Day 1: Complete the engage, explore and explain

portion

Day 2: Complete the elaborate and evaluate portion

Day 1: Engage
• Simultaneous rally table

• Give one get one

• Discus as a whole class

• Ask them what they think will happen

Day 1: Explore

Students will explore How

to make an electromagnet
Day 1: Explain
Ask students what they discovered
about electromagnets. Discuss the
magnetic field created in an
electromagnet. Ask students how they
think the electromagnet can be
strengthened.
Day 2: Elaborate
*Remind students of safety!
• 4 Question Strategy

• Paired Heads Together

• Popcorn Share

• Teammates Consult
