RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the project description and structure, project capabilities and

limitations, project test results and evaluation results.

Project Description

The Management Information System of Palciso-Sarabia Dental Clinic in Rosario

Cavite was a computer-based application that would convey all the patient dental

information. The system would help the dentist and the assistant to record easily, provide

patient appointment, and process bills.

The system had Login form that has two user levels in terms of security, the

administrator who is the owner of the dental clinic and the user, who is the assistant. The

administrator could add new user which is the assistant that has limited access to the

system. In the event that the system users forgot their password, they must enter their

correct username so that they can answer the security question provided and then, it

would lead them directly in changing their password.

The system also comprised of six modules such as Patient Information module

that allows addition of new patient. The system also had Appointment module where the

user could add schedule for the patients. It also contained Billing module where the total

bill of the patient will be computed. It also catered Report module wherein the clinical

status can be checked. Moreover, there is Maintenance module that will allow the users to

update the tooth condition, discount, payment, procedure, and user account. Lastly, the

database module is where the admin can backup and restore data.

Project Structure

The project structure consisted of detailed graphical user interface (GUI) with

descriptions of major components and system features.

Figure 5 shows the login form, wherein the system user has to input their

username and password before proceeding on main menu form. The system has two user

levels for login. First, the administrator who has access to all modules on the system and

the other one is the user who has limited access on the modules.

Figure 6 shows the forgot password form, wherein the system user could reset

their password by inputting the username first before the security questions appear. If the

answer was correct, the user can already change for a new password and retrieve the

account.

Project Capabilities and Limitations

The capabilities of the system is that it can record and manage patient’s

information and dental chart, can provide appointments for patient, can generate reports

such as procedure cases of the patient, total number of patients, total balance of patients

and the total income for a specific date. Moreover, the system can backup and restore

data.

Meanwhile, the system is designed to operate in a stand-alone environment and

can only be run on Microsoft Windows 7 and up.

Project Test Results

This table illustrates how the developers test the whole system and it shows the

behavior during the test and the result of the system.

Evaluation Result

The performance of the system was evaluated in terms of functionality, reliability,

usability, efficiency, maintainability, and portability based on ISO 9126.

There were 12 participants who evaluated the system. They were composed of 10

Information Technology (IT) Experts and 2 possible users; the dentist and the assistant.

Table 4 showed the functionality performance of the system. The indicator

suitability, interoperability and security got the highest mean of 4.83 rated as excellent,

while the indicators accurateness got a mean of 4.67 rated as excellent and security got a

mean of 4.75 rated as excellent. The system gained an overall mean of 4.78 which is

equivalent to excellent rating. This indicates that the system handles errors accordingly.

Table 5 shows the reliability performance of the system. The indicator

recoverability got the highest mean of 4.50 and rated as very good. Next, the indicator

maturity got the mean of 4.05and rated as very good. And last, the indicator fault

tolerance got the mean of 4.08 and rated as very good.

The system got an overall mean of 3.70 and rated as very good. This indicates that

the system was reliable.

Table 6 shows the results of the evaluation regarding the system’s usability

wherein all the indicators - understandability, learnability and operability gained a mean

of 4.67 and a standard deviation of 0.24 and all rated as excellent.

The system got an overall mean of 4.67 and rated as excellent. This indicates that

the system was useful.

Table 7 shows the efficiency performance of the system. The indicator time

behaviour got the mean of 4.92and a standard deviation of 0.08 rated as excellent and the

indicator resource behavior got the mean 4.58 and a standard deviation of 0.27 rated as

excellent.

The system got an overall mean of 4.75 and rated as excellent. This indicates that

the system was efficient.

Table 8 shows the maintainability performance of the system. The indicator

testability got the highest mean of 4.83 and a standard deviation of 0.15rated asexcellent.

Next, the indicator stability got a mean of 4.67 rated asexcellent. Lastly, the indicator

analyzability and changeability got the mean of 4.42 rated as very good.

The system got an overall mean of 4.58 rated as excellent. This indicates that the

system is maintainable and can be free from errors after the testing and debugging

process.

Table 9 shows the portability performance of the system. The indicator

installability and conformance got the highest mean of 4.58 and a standard deviation of

0.27 rated as excellent. Next, the indicator adaptability got a mean of 4.42 and a standard

deviation of 0.45at a very good rating. Lastly, the indicator replaceability got the mean of

4.25rated as very good.

The system got an overall mean of 4.46 rated as very good. This indicates that the

system is portable and easy to install.

Table 10 shows the over-all performance of the system that is measured by its

functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability and portability.

The indicator functionality got a highest mean of 4.78 rated as excellent; while the

indicator reliability got the lowest mean of 4.36 but still referred as very good.

Meanwhile, the indicators usability, efficiency and maintainability got a mean of 4.67,

4.75, and 4.58 respectively and all of it was rated as excellent. Then, the indicator

portability got a mean of 4.46 and also rated as very good.

The system got an overall mean of 4.60 rated as excellent. This indicates that the

system catered the needs of the clients and it also passed the ISO9126 standards.

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary, conclusion and recommendations based from

the result of the test and evaluation.

Summary

The developers created a Management Information System of Palciso-Sarabia

Dental Clinic based on the gathered information from the client through interviews. This

was done in order to establish the exact requirements of the system. The system was

created to easily store, modify, retrieve and create back-ups for the patient’s dental health

records.

Meanwhile, the developers used software applications such as Microsoft Visual

Studio as the integrated development environment, MySQL for the database and SAP

Crystal Report as the report designer.

Based on the results of testing, the system under the criteria of functionality,

reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability and portability, the Management

Information System of Palciso-Sarabia Dental Clinic was designed and constructed as

planned. The system got a grand mean of 4.60 which is equivalent to an excellent rating.

This shows that the said system performs task accurately, easy to use and provides clear

instructions to the users.

Conclusion

In consideration with the objectives of the study and the results of testing and

evaluation carried out, the following conclusions were derived:

1. The system was designed with the following features:

a. Provide a login form to access the system;

b. Store and manage patient information;

c. Efficiently keeps track of patient schedules;

d. Record transactions and balance of patients;

e. Print reports;

f. Backup and restore data; and

g. Update clinical information.

2. The system was created in Visual Basic 2012 and MySQL Database;

3. The functionality of the system was tested and improved by the evaluators;

and

4. The performance of the system was rated “excellent” by the respondent which

proves that the software is an effective management information system.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of the study, there were recommendations to further

enhance the developed Management Information System of Palciso-Sarabia Dental clinic.

The following were few recommendations to enhance the system:

1. Provide support for running the system in a network-based environment.

2. Include billing.
