It was hard to miss Meg Whitman’s green bus making its way through the North State on
Saturday.

It rumbled down one-lane highways and major freeways, through residential areas and quaint
downtowns. And if you couldn’t spot the colorful tour bus emblazoned with Meg’s signature poppy
and her message to voters, then the endless honking and cheering might have given it away.

With stops in Chico, Los Molinos and Redding, Meg’s bus tour is driving her message home – she’s
telling voters that with her leadership, “JOBS ARE ON THE WAY.”

“I saw the bus come in and all I saw was ‘JOBS’ and I thought, ‘Perfect.’ California, we’re in a world
of hurt -- we need jobs, and we need Meg,” said Chico resident Patty Krause, who packed into the
Cozy Diner along with more than 200 local residents for a chance to meet the gubernatorial
candidate.

Meg stopped at this well-known restaurant and talked with voters about her plan to support small
businesses and move California forward. She ordered a meal of chicken, mashed potatoes and
coleslaw, and then made her way through the crowd, shaking hands, talking about the issues and
cracking a few jokes.

“I love the way she reaches out to people,” Krause said. “She’s interested, she’s listening, she
wants to hear what the situations are and she’s concerned.”

“I think the most important factor in this election is enthusiasm and the turnout -- and the
momentum is on our side,” added Chico resident Ron Dogey as he waited to meet Meg. From
there, it was back on the bus and on to Los Molinos, where Meg stopped by a red-roofed fruit stand
off Highway 99, bought some peaches and talked with voters. Surprised customers David and
Linda Zeis of Redding were at another stand nearby when they spotted Meg’s bus and scurried
down the road to greet the candidate.

“It’s awesome,” Linda Zeis said. “This was pretty exciting down here on these back roads -- it’s
pretty cool to see her down here. We took a picture, and she was just so nice and friendly.”

At the Dairyville Orchard Festival, which draws about 1,500 people each year, throngs of
Californians greeted Meg at the entrance and followed her through the grounds as she stopped at
different booths. Photos were snapped. Parents asked Meg to hold their babies. The crowd buzzed.

“This is Meg country,” said Ron Warner, chairman of the Tehama County Board of Supervisors.
“The people you see turning out here are very glad to see her stop by. It’s meaningful that
somebody who’s running for a statewide position would take time to stop in to a little local festival
and greet the people.”

“And that bus is a hope for these people,” he added, referring to Tehama County’s 15 percent
jobless rate. “It’s what the folks are looking for.”

After the festival, Meg headed north to Redding, where she stopped at the Black Bear Diner. By the
dozens, patrons crowded around Meg as she made her way from table to table. Some had heard
rumors she was coming. Others were taken by surprise and immediately called their friends and
family to rush over to the diner.

“Seeing her was totally unexpected,” said Doug Fairey of Redding, who was having lunch with his
daughter when Meg walked in. “It was really great to see how real and how sincere she is about
what she’s doing. And you can tell she’s not a politician at all – she’s just a businessperson who
wants to correct all the wrongs in California. This was the thrill of my day.”
