Exercise 2

A structure map

The map for this exercise, which is available as both a pdf and jpeg file, shows the
elevations in feet of the top of a sandstone stratum as determined from logs of
boreholes. Your assignment is to make a structure contour map presenting a
geologically and rheologically reasonable interpretation of the shape of this sandstone
stratum. You should remember our classroom conclusion that (a) sharp bends in
individual contours and (b) abrupt changes in spacing of groups of contours are
commonly evidence of faults, especially if those anomalies lie along lines on your
map.
