to UCD

Requirements
The normal requirement for entry to a taught
Masters Degree programme is a second class
honours degree in a relevant subject. However
prospective applicants should check the individual
requirements, since some degrees may require a
higher standard for entry. For applicants who do not
have the required minimal entry standard, a year-
long qualifying course may be available in some
cases.
For Masters by research degrees, course work and
examinations may also be specified by the College
at entry; normally these have to be satisfactorily
completed in the first year of a Masters degree
programme.
To be eligible to enter one of UCD’s PhD
programmes, a candidate must have reached a
high honours standard in their primary degree. In
a significant number of cases, a Masters degree
may also be required. Specific information on entry
requirements can be found on the relevant UCD
School Website.
If English is not your first language, you may
need an IELTS score of (normally) 6.5 (with
no component below 6.0) or equivalent to be
considered for most programmes.

UCD College of Business has provided business

education for over a century, first introducing the
Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1908. In 1964,
University College Dublin became one of the first
universities in Europe to offer the degree of
Master of Business Administration (MBA).
In 1991, the graduate business school opened its

own campus in Blackrock, County Dublin. With over
100 faculty members, 1,400 students and 80,000 alumni
worldwide, UCD Smurfit School is one of a small number
of business schools worldwide and the only school in
Ireland, to hold triple international accreditation
(US - AACSB, European - EQUIS and UK – AMBA).
We are also the only business school in Ireland

whose programmes are consistently benchmarked
and ranked amongst the top 100 globally.

The College of Engineering & Architecture, with over
320 staff and almost 2,200 students is the largest and
most comprehensive in Ireland. There are six Schools in the
College, covering the Engineering disciplines of Chemical,
Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Biosystems, Food, Mechanical and
Materials Engineering, together with Architecture, Landscape
Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy.
Through the Schools, a wide range of taught masters’ programmes

are offered and a commitment to the on-going development of
both discipline specific and interdisciplinary teaching and research.
