This section describes the installation and configuration for the dual-server cluster system
in the Windows 2008 operating system.
1-1
Technical Terms
Term Description
Cluster Symantec Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) can connect multiple independent
systems to management framework. Each system (or node) runs its own
operating system and forms a software-level cluster. The VCS combines
common hardware and intelligent software to provide the switchover and
control functions of application failures. If a node or monitored application
is faulty, other nodes can perform the predefined operations to take over
services and enable these services on other locations in the cluster.
The local dual-server cluster system has one cluster only. The remote
dual-server cluster system has two clusters.
Node l The VCS considers the systems belonging to the cluster as nodes to
carry service groups. Each node is a system or a computer.
l The local dual-server cluster system has one cluster only, which
includes two nodes. The remote dual-server cluster system has two
clusters, each of which includes one node.
Dependent relationship Dependent relationship refers to the interdependent resources due to the
requirements of applications or the operating system. It is graphically
represented by a hierarchical structure (also called a tree), where the
upper-layer resources (parent resources) depend on lower-layer resource
(sub-resources).
1-2
1-3
2 NIC At least two NICs. One NIC is used for configuring the environment of
the dual-server cluster system, and the other NIC is used for connecting
access NEs.
3 Hard disk At least two hard disks. One hard disk is used to install the operating
system, and the other hard disk is used to save the network
management programs, data files of the database, and Veritas
replication logs.
If more than two hard disks are configured, you need to configure a
disk array.
Software Requirements
For the software requirements for the active and standby servers when you configure the
remote dual-server cluster system, refer to Table 1-2.
1 Windows Server 2008 R2 server Operating system software. The active and standby
Enterprise edition servers use the same operating system.

If an error occurs when you stop the progress, you should handle the fault, and then
click the Retry button.
8. Click Next.
9. Click the Finish button.
If the automatic reboot function of remote nodes is not enabled, ensure that these
nodes are restarted manually.
