We have locations in Burgbernheim (Germany) and Winterthur (Switzerland). Fixotec, headquartered

in Burgbernheim, was founded in 1996.

Made in Germany
Our cutting-edge machinery, consisting of 12 punch presses, 4 welding robots, and 2 rail profiling systems, offers
varied and flexible manufacturing options. We are one of the few companies in the whole of Germany to galvanise
our own products in-house, in our own electroplating shop. Our production processes are also an integral part
of the quality management system, serving as a basis to ensure the consistently high quality
of the products we manufacture.
With high-quality products and comprehensive service, we assist our customers

and their professional end users in overcoming challenges in the areas of fasteners
and sound insulation - both now and in the future! Custom product authorisations, including
in the areas of sound insulation, fire protection, and VDS regulations, contribute to the quality
criteria of our products.

We respond promptly to the changing requirements of customers
and of the market. Any required adjustments to our quality
management system are made continuously.

is neutrally evaluated by an external auditor from certification
firm DNV GL. Our quality management system meets the requirements of ISO 9001,

Every day, we are aware and take responsibility for our impact on the environment and seek to maintain natural habitats.
Having an understanding of how to protect the environment is a fixed part of our company's values.
My working with Interseroh and recycling steel, PE/PP/mixed plastics and paper/cardboard/paperboard, we were able to
save the following amounts of the above materials:

Our products are galvanised in our own in-house electroplating shop in Germany. This facility fulfils
stringent requirements, which contribute to protecting the environment and human health.
All our products are free from Chromium-6!

Working with the disabled
Many disabilities make getting into the job market difficult or impossible for some people. So that these people can
be included and gain a foothold in the general job market, there is equipment intended specifically
for the individual requirements of people employed there.
In these workshops, people with disabilities receive the necessary die support and backing to integrate themselves
into working life.
Base plates
We are happy to rise to this business challenge, and give people with a physical or mental disability a chance.
In final assembly, we integrate this into our production processes. We also support social projects
by cooperating with various institutions.
Charitable donations
We take social responsibility seriously.
This is why, each year, we assist charitable organisations in implementing

their social projects.
For example, in 2015, we put a smile on the face of sick children by supporting
the work of Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid) and its children’s foundation
Deutsche KinderKrebshilfe.

Why sound insulation?
General information
Sound insulation is a measure to reduce transmission of sound from a sound source.
Our ears need a break

The human ear is a high-performance sensory organ, which can discern sounds in a frequency range
of approx. 16 - 18,000 Hz. It cannot shut out sound waves.
Facts and figures

* Over a third of German citizens feel disturbed by traffic noise.
* 6.5% of German citizens complain about noisy neighbours.
* Many suffer from the effects of aircraft noise, and noise at sporting events and in industrial facilities.
* Noise has become a constant problem in our modern society.

Types of sound
Airborne sound: * Sound is transmitted through the air.
* The sound spreads throughout the area
and is transferred to walls, ceilings, and floors.
* Only airborne sound is discernible by the ear.
Structure-borne s* Structure-borne sound is transmitted through

solid objects (piping, walls, ceilings).
* Structure-borne sound is converted into airborne
sound, allowing it to be heard.
* The intensity of the transmission
of the structure-borne sound into airborne sound
is dependent on the quality of the insulation.
Why does sound insulation play a role in fastening technology?

Noise from ventilation, cooling, and heating equipment is primarily generated by structure-borne sound transmission.
Structure-borne sound cannot be easily remedied, most damage is irreparable. It can cause lasting physical
and psychological damage.
Continuous noise pollution represents a problem which is not to be underestimated.
Main sound insulation measures in installation areas
* Insulation. Using sound-insulating fastening

technology, you can ensure that all potential sound sources
are insulated from the building structure.
* For piping under high pressure (> 5 bar), install a pressure regulator.
* Dimension drainage lines properly with ventilation to avoid

gurgling noises.
* Avoid 90° bends in downpipes.
* Line shafts with mineral wool (min. 30 mm) and seal

installation shafts without joints.
* Use low-noise fittings (noise class I).

Did you know...

...that in order to save water, in modern home installation 100 mm diameter drainpipes
are no longer fitted as standard?
Modern cisterns require a lower volume of water for flushing. This means that smaller sized drainpipes
must be selected, so that the pressure in the pipe is not too low. Only older buildings
still generally use diameters of 100 mm and larger.
Due to modern water-saving technology, there is generally recognisable trend towards using smaller pipes.
We are satisfying this demand by the introduction of the 92-99 mm intermediate size.

Practical tip:
When installing plastic pipes, we recommend using special pipe clamps.
Plastic expands more than steel, which can therefore cause the pipes to bend due to the axial forces.
The spacers employed by our hinged pipe clamp for plastics pipes mean that the pipe is not clamped
too strongly, so that it can maintain the necessary freedom of movement.

Did you know...
...that sound insulation linings are effective in a number of different ways.
The small contact area with the lines at the top reduces the area
of the piping through which sound can enter into the sound-insulation lining.
The highly elastic rolled profile absorbs a significant portion

of structure-borne sound. The contact area of the lines at the bottom once more
reduces the transmission of the residual sound to the pipe fastening.
Optimal rolling motion of the rolled profile prevents noise and the build-up
of forces in the pipe clamp.
...that there is a difference between sound insulation and sound absorption?
Sound insulation
A obstacle is placed in the path of the soundwaves. This reflects and redirects them. However, the sound
energy is maintained.
Technology
Sound absorption
The sound energy is reduced by converting it into another form of energy.
In the case of airborne sound, this occurs by the soundwaves striking porous or structured surfaces.
For structure-borne sound, it happens by elastic intermediate layers.

Practical tip:
In low-pressure areas, we recommend fitting pipe clamps with a special silicone lining.
Silicone linings are used primarily for steam pipes and in the solar industry, because they have very good
temperature resistance.
Our silicone lining is temperature resistance from -60°C to +225°C.

Did you know...
...that the disadvantages of the slotted screw were becoming apparent as early as the start of the 20th century?
The disadvantages of slotted screws were highlighted by the increasing level of mass production
and the greater torques needing to be transferred. On the one hand, it takes a lot of effort to apply
the screwdriver properly, on the other, if it slips then there is the potential for damage not only
to the screw but also to the workpiece itself.
This was what led J. P. Thompson in 1933 to develop and patent the cross-head screw.

There are many different types of stainless steel, which can be distinguished based on their alloying elements.
V2A
The abbreviation V2A stands for "test melt 2 austenite" (Versuchsschmelze 2 Austenit). This is a high-purity steel.
The focus here is on the purity of the material, with respect to damaging components such as sulphur or
phosphorous. Standard V2A steel (material 1.4301) is acid and corrosion resistant.
V4A
The abbreviation V4A stands for "test melt 4 austenite" (Versuchsschmelze 4 Austenit). Contrary to V2A,
this stainless steel has a molybdenum additive. This results in extreme corrosion resistance. Thus V4A
is mostly used in outdoor applications, because it is harder and more weather-resistant.

With caulking, a small area at the end of the thread is damaged by a targeted blow with a punch. This makes it
possible to undo the screw by force alone.

Practical tip:
As the temperature changes, all pipes also experience corresponding changes in length.
The change in length is dependent on what material the pipe is made of, the temperature difference,
and the length of the pipe. Thanks to the differing linear expansion coefficients, significantly greater linear
expansion occurs primarily in plastic pipes than pipes made from metallic materials, under the same conditions.
This makes it important to observe certain specifications when laying them.

Anchor point clamps selectively channel reaction forces (expansions of the lines) in the desired direction, thereby
subdividing the pipes into separate expansion zones. Anchor points must hold the pipe in the clamp, while
themselves remaining firmly anchored to the building structure. When used in combination
with corresponding expansion point fastenings, the freedom of movement of the pipes is not restricted.

Insulation
General information
If the medium being insulated is warmer than the surroundings, we talk about thermal insulation.
If the medium being insulated is colder than the surroundings, we talk about cold insulation.
The tasks of insulation

* Reducing heat loss, and therefore energy consumption.
* Protecting the flow medium from undesirable temperature fluctuations.
* Preventing the formation of condensation and external corrosion.
* Reducing the growth of Legionella bacteria.
Insulation materials
Different materials can be used to achieve the desired insulating effect. Nowadays insulation
materials predominantly consist of the following basic materials:
* Mineral fibres, e.g. mineral wool or glass wool
* Soft or hard plastic foams, e.g. PVC, PU, PE, PS
The installer insulates lines using:

* pipes with thermal insulation applied in the factory.
* closed-pored, flexible insulation hoses.
* pipe shells made from the above materials.
Regulations on protecting piping against heat transfer

Thermal insulation is stipulated for hot water and heating lines in the German Energy Conservation Ordinance (EnEV),
which relates to the Energy Conservation Act (EnEG). Hot water and heating lines primarily must be protected against
heat loss, as hot, uninsulated lines lose a great deal of heat. The larger the pipe circumference,
the larger the magnitude of the heat loss.
Cold water lines must also be encased with insulation according to DIN 1988-200. Failure to do so poses a risk that
the moisture contained in warm air will condense when it comes into contact with the cold pipe. Thus in summer
temperatures, even in low-humidity conditions, condensation can form and drip off. This moisture carries with it a risk
of corrosion and mould growth.

In addition to observing the spacing between pipe brackets, it is also important to avoid the transfer of excessive vibrations.
Particular care must be taken to ensure that noises or vibrations are not transmitted from the piping into walls and buildings,
by choosing the right support structures.
Measures to prevent pipes from freezing

A layer of thermal insulation cannot permanently prevent lines from freezing.
Therefore, to guard against frost:
* Room which are susceptible to frost must be heated with appropriate equipment.
* Do not route water lines though external walls.
* Route lines in the ground at depths not susceptible to frost.

Increasingly complex technical advances in supply technology increase the requirements for planning, design,
and installation of piping systems. This means that structural fire protection needs to be factored
in from the earliest stages of project planning.
Objectives
The primary objective of fire protection is to protect human life and to avoid against economic losses
and environmental damage.
Facts and figures

* In Germany, some 6,000 people suffer longterm injury in fires each year.
* There are also roughly 400 deaths in fires in the country each year.
* Of these, 95% succumb to fumes - and not the flames themselves.
* Every third victim of fire is a child.
* Some 70% of victims are caught unawares by fire in their sleep.
* In 13 of the German states, installation of smoke detectors is required by law.

Structural fire protection

The most important standard for structural fire protection is DIN 4102, which also defines the fire behaviour of building
materials and structural elements. It categorises the combustibility and fire resistance of the material.
Building materials are differentiated into building material classes as follows:

Fire resistance classes are differentiated by length of time (number of minutes until the material fails) as follows:

Principles of fire-safe fastening

* Fire-safe fastening of line installations in escape and rescue routes.
* The fastening intervals must not exceed 1.5 m.
* Arms of support systems (brackets) must also be suspended at the free ends.
* Metal anchors may be used provided they receive building approval and are fire tested.

What is electroplating?
General information
Electroplating is a corrosion protection process for parts made predominantly of steel. The objects
to be finished are coated with metal (zinc) in an electrolytic bath.
Facts and figures

* Germany has around 1500 galvanic installations.
* The person who discovered galvanic electricity was physicist Luigi Galvani.
* The largest zinc baths in Germany have a length of approx. 20 m.

The process
The workpieces are zinc plated by electricity in an electrolytic bath.

This involves suspending the workpiece in the electrolyte as a cathode (-).
The zinc is the anode (+), which dissolves away and is thereby applied
to the cathode.
In suspension systems, the products are suspended from specially adapted

frames. Immersing the product in the electrolytic bath distributes the zinc over
the product uniformly.
For small steel parts, the bulk goods are loaded into metal drums and fully immersed in the bath. By rotating
the metal basket, the parts are centrifuged. This is particularly important for parts with a thread.
There's more to galvanising than meets the eye!

The various galvanising processes differ in terms of the thickness of the zinc layer and their corrosion protection
properties:
Sendzimir galvanising:
* Sendzimir galvanising (strip galvanising) is used in the area
of punching & forming processes.
* The thickness of the zinc layer is in this case generally around
roughly 7 - 25 μm.
Electroplating:
* Electroplating is primarily used for small parts.
* The thickness of the zinc layer is in this case generally around
roughly 5 - 25 μm.
Hot-dip galvanising:
* Hot-dip galvanising is primarily used for outdoor applications.
* The thickness of the zinc layer is in this case generally around roughly 50 - 100 μm.
Special galvanising:
* There are also other galvanising processes, for example zinc spraying or zinc flake coating.
Environment
Galvanising contributes to the avoidance of corrosion damage, and consequently extends the durability of the products.
The most important task of a well-managed electroplating shop is to handle raw materials, water, and energy in such a way
that resources are conserved, waste minimised, and risks to the environment avoided.
Our in-house electroplating shop is a pioneer in this area.

Hot-dip galvanising generally provides decades of protection for steel. The metallic coating is applied by immersing
the component in molten zinc (approx. 450°C). This forms a highly-resistant alloy layer.
The thicker the base material, the thicker the zinc layer that is applied.

In-house electroplating shop
General information
We are one of the few companies in Germany to galvanise our own products. Our electroplating shop is located
at our headquarters in Burgbernheim.
Pollutants
Due to the stringent environmental standards, in Germany it is prohibited to process Chromium-6,
which is hazardous to health and particularly toxic. However, it can still be used to finish surfaces in many electroplating
techniques used abroad. Our offering in this area favours safety, by only processing materials which are approved according
to the REACH regulation!
What do we do for the environment?
Resource conservation
The objective is to handle water and raw materials in such a way that resources are conserved. In addition
we want to reduce energy use down to essential levels.
* In order to save water, we make use of large transfer systems.
* Optimisation of electricity yield to currently approx 98%.
* Energy savings due to low heat input.
* Environmentally compatible use of chemicals due to substitution.
Waste and waste water

We avoid waste where possible.
* We use biological degreasers, which are converted into biomass.
* We do not use cyanide-containing baths.
* We do not use any complexing agents or similar.
* Our electroplating shop produces as little waste water as possible.
We beat statutory environmental parameters by approx. 10%.

Practical tip:

What is corrosion?
General information
The term corrosion means the destruction of metals by the reaction of a material
with its surroundings.
Facts and figures

* Each year in Germany, damage in the value of some €100B is caused by corrosion.
* A rust film can be deposited on untreated steel within hours.

How is rust produced?

Rust occurs primarily on iron or steel surfaces by oxidation with
oxygen in the presence of electrolytes (e.g. water). The formation of
rust is also accelerated by the presence of salts, as they increase the conductivity
of the water.
Slight traces of rust can be washed off with diluted phosphoric acid (for example).
Heavily rusted materials can be cleaned of rust by methods including brushing, grinding,
or sandblasting.
Types of corrosion
Corrosion can occur in different forms:
Erosive corrosion
The surface is attacked and removed uniformly.
Pitting corrosion
The passive layer on the surface is destroyed selectively. Due to the progressive removal of material, holes appear
in the base material.
Stress corrosion
Stress cracks in the material grow as a result of the accumulation of aggressive media in the crack.
Contact corrosion
Occurs due to direct contact between noble and base metals in conjunction with an electrolyte (moisture).
If steel (for example) – a base metal – comes into direct contact with stainless steel – a noble metal – the steel
is corroded more quickly in combination with moisture.
Corrosion protection
Corrosion protection describes all measures to protect materials and components from corrosion. Absolute
corrosion resistance of steel cannot be achieved. In this case, the objective is to reduce the speed
of corrosive attack sufficiently to avoid damage to the component during its service life.

Metals and plastics contract in the cold and expand in the heat. Especially for pipes used in heating systems, which are subject
to continuous temperature fluctuations due to thermostat control, these physical conditions must be taken into account. Tension forces
can be avoided using suitable pipe fasteners, which are able to swing or slide.
