Cada 8 de setiembre, una gran multitud visita la iglesia del distrito de Sapallanga
para venerar un año más a la pequeña imagen de la milagrosa Virgen de
Cocharcas, a fin de agradecerle un favor o pedirle algo. Esta festividad es muy importante ya que muestra el inmenso fervor que los fieles tienen para con la Virgen ya que aquellos realizan caminatas de ocho kilómetros hacia su santuario que se encuentra en el distrito de Sapallanga. En el recorrido al Santuario, que es precedido por el obispo de la zona, existen diferentes estaciones en las cuales los devotos se detienen para poder realizar diferentes homenajes a la Virgen, entre ellos oraciones y cánticos; de la misma manera en oportunidades se encuentra la representación escénica del nacimiento del niño Jesús. Cuando se llega al Santuario de la Virgen el sacerdote a cargo realiza bendiciones a los feligreses que han realizado devotamente la peregrinación y se celebran los días siguientes al central distintas misas junto con recorridos procesionales en homenaje de la Virgen. Una de las principales características de la fiesta es la presencia de numerosas danzas tradicionales con las que se rinde culto a la Virgen. Entre ellas tenemos el Apu inca, la Ccoya o Koya, el Carachaqui o ccalachaqui, un lugar muy importante en esta fiesta tiene las danzas denominadas la Negrería o Pandillada de negros y la Chonguinada, ambas danzas emblemáticas del valle del Mantaro. Es importante esta festividad religiosa, ya que se encuentran presenten diferentes ferias gastronómicas donde son exhibidos y puestos a la venta los platos tradicionales de Junín, entre aquellas la sopa de mote, papa a la huancaína, trucha asada, chupe verde, cuy colorado, entre muchos otros.
