Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Describe how you could address Universal Design for Learning principles
to extend and support the learning experiences for all students.
Engagement: Students will have the opportunity to work individually to create a timeline about the history of
colonial Georgia. They will be able to work during class in a quiet environment. This project will be a learning
stretch because students will have to research the events to add to the timeline.
Representation: Each event on the timeline has to include a description and image. Students will have to be
creative to make their timeline interesting and engaging. They will earn extra points if they include a relevant
video to the events.
Action and Expression: The students will talk about their research in groups about the specific events they
have learned. The students may use Visme or TimeGlider to create their timeline.

Lesson idea implementation: Students will create a graphical representation of historical events that
happened during the colonial time of Georgia. They use the ReadWriteThink software to create a timeline
that includes information about the Charter of 1732, James Oglethorpe, how slavery started, the counties, the
first Royal Governor, and when the General Assembly convened. Students will use their textbook as well as
online resources such as Galileo to help them find the facts for their timeline. As an alternative to completing
this assignment with paper and pencil, students can use this tool and list the events as well as attach images
and videos. The teacher will show the students a PowerPoint presentation outlining important events in the
History of Georgia that will help them create their timeline. They will also be able to use their textbook as a
resource.
This assignment will reach higher levels of learning with Bloom’s Taxonomy because students will be
researching information, interpreting and applying what they learn in order to create the timeline. This
assignment also meets the Level 3 ISTE standard because students will be using a digital tool to construct
knowledge of the historical events and also lining up the event chronologically on the timeline. Students will

be given a rubric that outlines the specific events that have to be included on the timeline. Each event will
need a date, description, and image. Students can earn extra points if they include a relevant video. This
project will count as test grade. The students will be graded based on the rubric and if they include all of the
events.

Reflective Practice: To further enhance higher level learning, students could be asked to include more events
on the timeline and include longer descriptions. They could write a narrative associated with the timeline to
further explain the history of colonial Georgia. This could be one activity that is an option on a choice board
for students.
