LOCAL OUTREACH
Many crocheters start out making things for family and friends and then extend their help to others. Local organizations
that accept handmade items include hospitals and clinics, children’s agencies, veterans’ groups, retirement homes,
nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, homeless shelters, pet shelters, churches, civic groups, disaster relief agencies, law
enforcement agencies, and community service agencies. Many have volunteer programs or auxiliary groups that you
may contact about donating handmade items; some work year-round and some only gear up during special times.

NATIONWIDE PROGRAMS
To broaden your outreach, consider sending your crocheted items to an organization that responds to needs across the
country. The programs below and opposite are some popular favorites. For more choices, ask for recommendations from
friends who knit or crochet, check online forums in social media groups or on knit and crochet industry websites, or go
online and search for “charity crochet.”

YARN INFORMATION
The projects in this book were made using a variety of yarn weights. Any brand of the specified weight of yarn may be
used. It is best to refer to the yardage/meters when determining how many balls or skeins to purchase. Remember, to
arrive at the finished size, it is the GAUGE/TENSION that is important, not the brand of yarn.

For your convenience, listed below and on page 64 are the specific yarns used to create our photography models.
Because yarn manufacturers make frequent changes in their product lines, you may sometimes find it necessary to use a
substitute yarn or to search for the discontinued product at alternate suppliers (locally or online).
