I was established by the Pritzker family of Chicago through their Hyatt Foundation in 1979. It is granted
annually and is often referred to as “architecture’s Nobel” and “the profession’s highest honor.”

Norman Foster was born on 1st June 1935. His
father led him to the world of design and
engineering in his early days. He then went to a
university in 1950s, and met his mentors Paul
Manchester, 1935 Rudolp, Serge Chermayeff, Vincent Scully, and
James Sterling, Who had led young Foster to

Building Analysis
Architecture: pilotis, free plan, free façade.
Foster and partners wanted to make a large, open, and free space building. To
support his idea, Foster made HSBC Tower Hong Kong with building’s technology
(Space-truss). He made a hanging structure to support the idea of ’open’ building
because the 1st floor used to be a sidewalk (public space) and he’s using mirrors to
maximixe the use of natural light.

From the outset, the Bank placed a high priority on
flexibility. Consequently, over the years, it has been able
to reconfigure office layouts with ease, even
incorporating a large dealers room into one floor, an
arrangement that was not thought possible when the

Conclusion
HSBC Headquarter building represented some of Norman Foster’s beliefs such as the use of
technology, modern architecture, architecture is about the human and quality of life and a building
that will not only last, but will work for the people that use them
