1. Students will fill out and score their individual Career Cluster Inventory to identify their top
three career clusters.
2. Students will apply media and technology skills to research careers related to their top three
clusters.
3. Students will identify the necessary level of education required for their chosen careers
4. Students will locate different college majors that may be tied to a career in their chosen field.
5. Students will record their possible career paths on the handout.
6. Students will apply time management skills to complete their handouts in the allotted time.

Materials: Counselor will need access to a projector and laptop. Students will need a copy of
the Career Cluster Inventory, a career plan worksheet, a writing utensil, laptops and access to
the internet.

Procedure: The counselor will have a copy of the Career Cluster Inventory projected on the
screen as students arrive. Hard copies of the Career Cluster Inventory will be passed out, and
the counselor will provide instructions on how to complete it. Students will be given 30
minutes to fill out and score their inventory. They will record their top three career clusters.
Students will then have 5 minutes to discuss their results with a partner. The last few minutes
of class will be used to debrief as a group and students will be allowed to provide feedback.
Career Cluster Inventories will be collected at the end of class for the counselor to review.

In the following class, students will be using their top three career clusters to identify careers
that appeal to them. They will also be researching the level of education necessary to obtain a
career in that field, as well as potential college majors. Upon arriving, students will be given
their completed Career Cluster Inventories as well as the Career Plan Worksheet, which
contains instructions for completing the assignment. The counselor will have the CareerWise
website projected on the screen. The counselor will run through one example, and then
students will be advised to open their own laptops and begin researching. Students will have 30
minutes to complete their worksheets. In the last 10 minutes of class, students will be allowed
to share feedback about the careers that interest them and anything that surprised them
during their search.

Plan for Evaluations: How will each of the following be collected?

1) Process Data: The lesson will be administered to all sophomore students over the
course of two 50-minute English classes. The lesson will be conducted in the spring
of 2020.
2) Perception Data: 90% of Sophomores will have identified 3 careers of interest and
the level of education required for each career.
3) Outcome Data: Percentage of students enrolling in college after a 12-month period
will increase by 10% over the next 3 years, from 47.3% to 52.03%.

Follow-Up: Counselors will be able to review Career Cluster Inventory and Career Planning
Worksheets with their students in individual college planning sessions.
