Teacher Leadership Experience

● Advocate for shared Google Doc collaboration on student achievement, progress, and
need for all junior high teachers.
● Attended a workshop for a new Bible curriculum. Returned to school and shared learning
with colleagues.
● Took part in a Young Adult Literature conference. Return to school and shared learning
with colleagues.

Future Goals

1. I will develop my leadership in Curriculum.


a. Goal: Build knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
b. Short-Term Objective: Introduce a new book into the classroom every month.
c. Long-Term Objective: Become a lifetime reader/pursuant of children’s/young
adult literature.
d. Rationale: ​The NCTE Children’s Literature Assembly (CLA) ​says that teachers
should have a breadth of quality literature resources across the domains and should
remain current on books and reading trends.
e. NBPTS: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach
those subjects to students.
f. TLMD: Domain 4: Facilitating Improvements in Instruction and Student Learning.
2. I will develop my leadership in Student Assessment.
a. Goal: Use a variety of assessments to improve our language arts curriculum and
enhance student learning.
b. Short-Term Objective: In my language arts class, refine the rubrics used in daily
journal writes (physical portfolio).
c. Long-Term Objective: For incoming 6th graders, allow students to create e-portfolios
to showcase and archive their work, collaborate, and receive feedback.
d. Rationale: ​The Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC)
states that portfolios (electronic and standard) allow students to represent lifelong
learning and showcase their growth and accomplishment.
e. NBPTS: Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring
student learning.
f. TLMD: Domain 5. Promoting the Use of Assessments and Data for School and
District Improvement.
g. Teacher Inquiry: I will develop my skills in using a portfolio as an assessment tool.
3. I will develop my leadership in professional development.
a. Goal: Practice and model a life of learning by growing as a professional.
b. Short-Term Objective: Finish the FOTIP.
c. Long-Term Objective: Obtain my Master’s in Information and Library Science (with
either a focus in Children’s/Young Adult Literature, School Librarianship, or Public
Librarianship).
d. Rationale: ​The NCTE Executive Committee​ relays that professional development is a
central factor leading to student success.
e. NBPTS: Proposition 5: Teachers are members of learning communities.​
f. TLMD: Domain 3. Promoting Professional Learning for Continuous Improvement.
