Chapter activities since last report
Last report sent June 2004 (One copy sent as attached file) It is worth mentioning that our
academic year starts in February and ends in December.
Regular meetings of the Executive Committee (every month) to discuss the activities of the
Chapter. The Secretary registers the subjects under consideration in the Chapter Meetings
Book
Administration and maintenance of our web page with a link in the Faculty of Engineering
main page and our email list.
Interaction with other Student Chapters.
Diego Sica has finished a paper on free air optical communications to present at SPIE 50th
Annual Meeting.
Some members keep on working in a free air optical communication project in the
laboratory of Prof. Castro, Faculty Advisor of the Chapter.
Representation of the Student Chapter in the Master Course in Electro-Optics by the
President Diego Sica and Claudio Ejden.
Design of a presentation of our Chapter shown during the SPIE 49th Annual Meeting.
José Lipovetzky represented SPIE UBA SC in the SPIE 49th Annual Meeting.
Special lecture on Free Space Opical Comunication Systems (Diego Sica)
Special lecture on Semciconductor Lasers (José Lipovetzky)
Special lecture on Fiber Optics (Leonardo Rey Vega)
Future Chapter Activities
The following activities have been programmed for next year (2005):
Representation of the Chapter at the SPIE 50th Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA.
Working in the free air optical communication project
Spread the optical discipline at secondary schools, advise and assist secondary students in
getting involved in optics and photonics.
Spread the optical discipline at the Faculty and incorporate new members.
Spread the optical discipline at the Master Course in Electro-Optics.
In collaboration with the SPIE Argentina Chapter to organize a regional conference
Give conferences and special lectures scheduled for next year.

Renewal of some of the student memberships (Will be reimbursed in local currency. Due to our
financial crisis, it is easier for us in this way).
