OBJETIVO DA DISCIPLINA:

Familiarizar os alunos com os primórdios da literatura britânica antiga, medieval e renascentista a

partir da contextualização histórica da ocupação das ilhas britânicas e de primeiros textos
remanescentes do inglês antigo (Beowulf e The Battle of Maldon), do inglês médio (Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight e The Canterbury Tales) e do inglês renascentista (peças e sonetos de William
Shakespeare).

EMENTA:

Estudo das raízes da cultura britânica até o renascimento considerando aspectos geográficos,
históricos, políticos, econômicos, sociais e religiosos a partir de material áudio-visual, análise crítica
de textos literários e de documentos históricos. O curso apresenta um panorama da cultura britânica
antiga, medieval e renascentista até o século XVII.

OBJETIVO DA DISCIPLINA:

Oferecer ao aluno um panorama da literatura britânica no século XVIII com o nascimento do

romance, passando pelo período romântico e vitoriano até as obras mais importantes do início do
século XX.

EMENTA:

A poesia de John Milton. O surgimento do romance no início do século XVIII (1715) em

perspectiva com a estrutura socio-histórica da época. O iluminismo inglês e a literatura neoclássica.
Visão geral do movimento romântico e da era Vitoriana na Literatura Inglesa: contextos político,
social e filosófico. Apresentar aos alunos algumas das mais influentes obras literárias do século XX
e a cultura que as produziu.
