Lesson Intro (What will you say to get the students’ attention, communicate the lesson objectives, and motivate students
to achieve them?):
Today, our focus is going to be on hopping and jumping. And because we will be doing a lot of those motor skills, the
games we will be playing have a frog theme!

Learning Objectives Assessment

Each objective should include: a) Performance (the For each objective include your procedure for
knowledge or ability the learner will gain as a result of this determining whether objectives have been met:
lesson), b) Conditions (under which the learner will
perform, and c) Criterion (the level of performance
considered acceptable):
1. name and/or demonstrate the skills used during the 2 1. informal observation and asking students to name and/
games played (hop, jump, leap) or demonstrate skills

2. listen to instructions so they understand when to use 2. informal observation

whichever motor skill announced

Safety considerations and/or modifications for special needs students:

Frogs & Fish: Frog Pond:
Fish should use soft tags when tagging fleeing players Make sure students are not rushing/running to the center
but using the assigned motor skill
All players should keep their eyes up at all times
Only one player may rest on a lily pad at a time

Learning Activities

Closure (What will you say and do to help students recall the lesson objectives and recognize what they’ve learned? How
will you meet one or more of the following goals: review, accountability, cool-down, recognition, interpersonal
communication, future plans?):
What skills did you all practice and use today during our games? Which one did you find easier?
Great job on following directions, when I say go I would like you all to pick up the equipment and put them back into the
bins then jump like a frog into your line quietly!

Reflective Comments (to be completed after the lesson):

shorten instruction time by not having two many different animals and locations involved. only use half of the gym. have
students be frogs and taggers just be taggers. the pieces they receive can still be called flies. Still switch off jumping and
hopping for each new round so the students can practice both.
Frogs & Fish
• Divide your playing area into three zones: a large area in the middle (the river), an end zone on one side of the river (the
burrow) and an end zone on the other side of the river (the river bank).
• On the river bank, place a large number of beanbags (flies).
• On the river, place a variety of poly spots (lily pads).
• Divide your class into three teams: toads, frogs and fish.
• The toads and the frogs begin the game by standing in the burrow. The fish begin the game by standing in the river (not
on any lily pads).
• The goal of the game is for the toads and frogs to bring all of the flies from the river bank back to their burrow without
being tagged by any fish. Toads and frogs may only carry one fly at a time, and toads must jump their way across the
river while frogs must hop. Fish may simply run anywhere within the river.
• If a toad or a frog becomes tagged by a fish, they drop the fly and return to the start and try to get one again without
being tagged
• Toads and frogs are safe from fish when they are in the burrow, on a lily pad or on the river bank.

Frog Pond
• In Frog Pond, students are practicing their jumping, leaping, and hopping skills by moving from one lily pad (poly spot)
to another to get to the frog food (beanbags, yarn balls, etc. that are in the middle circle of the gym). The teacher
introduces Finnegan the Frog. Finnegan is a very picky eater. He only likes certain color foods and he changes his mind
a lot.
• During the activity, the students try to collect as much food for Finnegan as they can, and hope they get a lot of his
favorite color. The teacher hides a notecard with Finnegan's favorite color food on it (i.e., blue) under Finnegan and
places him in an area that is visible to the students. The students are sitting with a partner behind a cone, which are
spread out around the perimeter of the playing area.
• When the teacher says "GO", one of the partners jumps, hops, or leaps from lily pad to lily pad to get to the middle area.
Once there, they choose 1 piece of frog food. They then jump, hop, or leap across the lily pads to get back to their
partner. They keep the frog food by their team's cone, and their partner then takes a turn and does the same thing. This
continues until all the frog food is gone. When all the frog food is gone, the teacher ends the round and has all students
sit with their partner behind their cone.
• The teacher reveals what color food Finnegan likes for that round, and the students count up the number of food they
have that matches that color. The students return the frog food to the middle, the teacher chooses a new favorite food
color for Finnegan, and a new round starts.
