JOB DESCRIPTION OF ASSISTANT SIGNAL ENGINEER

1. To be responsible for efficient maintenance of all signal equipment on


division and will work under the executive control of Divisional Signal
Engineer.

2. To ensure safe and efficient maintenance of all safety signalling


devices including conventional mechanical and modern signalling.

3. To inspect each interlock stations at least once in every six months and
will submit his inspection notes to DSE for onward transmission to HQs
Office.

4. To arrange the preparation of estimates indenting of stores and


supervision of new signalling projects.

5. To ensure that all maintenance schedules are regularly being carried


out and all test results are regularly submitted by the subordinates. He
will also witness the schedule as and when possible in addition to his
own duties in carrying out the schedules.

6. To ensure regular submission of SI-3 Certificate by all Signal


Inspectors working under him and will check/scrutinize the same
accordingly.

7. To ensure timely submission of the following certificates and reports


by his subordinates to his office and will in turn submit the same to
DSE for onward transmission to HQs Office.

i. SI-5 Certificate (Annual testing of mechanical lever frame and


electrical slide frame.

ii. SI-8 Certificate (three yearly overhauling of mechanical lever


frame and electrical slide frame.

iii. BS-3 Certificate (periodical testing of cables)

iv. BS-5 Certificate (Annual interlocking test of Relay interlocked


stations)

v. BS-6 Certificate (yearly ballast resistance test of track circuits).

vi. BS-7 Certificate (Overhauling of Diesel generating sets)

vii. BS-8 certificate (Overhauling of points, signal and gate


machines).
8. To ensure timely submission of certificate for the overhauling block
instruments by the subordinates to his office and will in return submit
to DSE for onward submission to HQS Office.

9. To conduct monthly footplate inspection of the interlocked sections.


10. To inspect non-interlocked stations jointly with Assistant Engineer after
every half year.

11. To exercise administrative control over all signalling subordinates and


other staff working under him, check their TA, recommend leave and
take action under the Efficiency and Discipline Rules enforce in
accordance with the powers delegated therein.

12. To prepare all proposals for new works and put up to Divisional Signal
Engineer for submission to HQs Office, Lahore.

13. To attend assistant officers’ enquiries for accidents and personnel


matters etc.

14. To in addition carryout any other duties that may be assigned to him
by the Divisional Superintendent or Divisional Signal Engineer in the
best interest of administrative.
