Residence Hall Association Statement of Purpose

In an effort to clarify the purpose and function of SE-RHA, we have

developed this statement of purpose.

The preamble of our constitution states:

We, the residents of Southeastern Oklahoma State University
residence halls, in recognition of the need for resident student
representation, hall programming, hall governance, and the overall
betterment of the campus living environment, do hereby establish this
constitution.

Articles 1 – Section 2 of our current constitution indicates the purpose

of RHA broadly as:
a. Programming
b. Representing Residents on policy matters.
c. Cooperating with Residence Life in making the halls
better.
d. Facilitating the attendance of conferences.

Additionally, as an affiliated member of the National Association of

College and University Residence Hall, Incorporated (NACURH), we
adhere to the Vision and Mission of NACURH, and incorporate these as
a more comprehensive description of the general vision, mission and
purpose of the SE chapter of RHA.

The Vision and Mission of NACURH read as follows:

Vision Statement
The National Association of College and University Residence Halls,
Incorporated, recognizes living on campus as an integral part of the
college experience, and therefore strives to be the organization of
choice for residence hall leaders by providing comprehensive
resources for college and university students seeking to create the
ultimate residence hall environment and experience.

Mission Statement
NACURH is the leading national organization advocating for the
interests and welfare of residence hall students, while also providing
opportunities for their personal growth and development. It is an
organization of students committed to developing leadership, honoring
diversity, recognizing achievement, as well as stimulating engagement
and involvement among students who reside in college and university
residence halls. Through regional and national programs and services,
NACURH provides leadership opportunities for students, shares
residence hall programming resources and best practices, and
coordinates activities with appropriate professional associations and
business partners.

SE RHA Statement of Purpose and Direction

More specifically, RHA will support and encourage individual members
of the residence hall community, striving to enhance the academic
community of the residence halls. We adhere to the student
development model and include support (both financial and personal
actions) of programming, activities, awards, support, and other means
of enhancing personal development of the members. We are
committed the further the cultural competence and honor the diversity
and unique contributions of all members of the residential community.
We are committed to developing the leadership potential of all
members, and include financial and personal support of a variety
activities aimed at developing the leadership of each member. Within
this context we also recognize our responsibilities to the wider
university, local and global community and make service to these
communities a part of our purpose. This service may take the form of
community service projects, fund-raising activities and donations to a
variety of charitable organizations.

While it would be impossible to list all of the activities that fall under
these general purposes, any activity which falls within the general
mission, function, vision, or purposes described above fall within the
scope of the purpose of SE RHA. We also recognize the Director of
Residence Life (and/or her designee) as the primary advisor to this
organization, and as such, the person with the authority to ensure that
the activities and expenditures of our local RHA chapter are consistent
with the mission, vision, purposes of our own written documents and
those of NACURH, in general.
