Change in Weekly SST Departures over the Last Four Weeks

During the last four weeks, positive changes in equatorial SST anomalies were evident
the central Pacific, and negative changes across small areas of the eastern Pacific.
Atmospheric Indicator
Southern Oscillation Index

• The 30-day Southern

Oscillation Index (SOI) to 18
La Niña
June was −4.5 (90-day value
−3.6), within neutral
territory.
Neutral
• Sustained positive values of
the SOI above +7 typically
indicate La Niña while
sustained negative values
El Niño below −7 typically indicate
El Niño. Values between
about +7 and −7 generally
indicate neutral conditions.
