Um diesen achtzehn Ausgaben cine weitere hinzurufogen,
‘bedaf es einer kurzen Begrindung.
Far die Suiten for Cello alin, die woh] 24m grofen Tellin
Backs Kéehener Zeit (1737-2225) komponiert sind, feble
elm Autograph Bachs als Quelle, im Gegensatz 38 den Solo-
werken fr Violine. Alle Ausgaben fuSen hauptsichlich aut
cinerziemlich flictigen, von Anna Magdalena Bach ange-
fersigten Kopie!. Eine weitere Abschife des Organisten
J.P. Kellner (1705~1772), eines bekannten und grofen
Verebrers Bach, ist heute lelder niche 2ugdnglich und wird
bier nur auf Grund des Revisonsheridtes der Ausgabe der
Bach-Geslschatt, Jabrgang XVI, 1, siiert. In der une

No fewer than eighteen editors have occupied themselves
with the present suites for violoncello solo since the first
edition of 1825, (2825, H. A. Probst, 1826 J] F. Dorasuer,

sduaft Editon, 1888 A. Sdbrdder, 1897 N. Salter, 1698

In contrast to the solo works for viola, there ¥s no Bade
‘autograph as source forthe sultes for cello sole, whick were
mostly composed in Bad's then period (1717-2723). All
the editions are based malty om a somewhat careless copy
by Anna Magdalena Bais". Another copy by the oreanist
J.P. Kelluer (1705-1772), an acquaimnce and reat ad-

only quoted here on the authority of the Crittal Revort of
the Bede-Geselldaft Editon, Jahrgang XXVII, 1. This
