LITERATURE REVIEW

1. Mohammad I. Jahirul, et al., Biofuels Production through Biomass Pyrolysis, 2012

This paper basically discusses various pyrolysis principles and ways available for extraction of
energy through pyrolysis. Further it deals with the classification of pyrolysis on basis of different
parameters. The feedstock for pyrolysis process, its composition and classification is analysed.
Detailed study of various pyrolysis reactors is also done. The parameters affecting the pyrolysis
process is been detailed and the characteristics of products obtained through it are explained.
Finally discussion on Current Status of pyrolysis technology is been done.

2. Mantesh Basappa Khot, S Basavarajappa, Plastic waste into fuel using pyrolysis process,
International Research Journal of Engineering and Technology (IRJET), Volume: 04 Issue: 09

This paper discuss about the fuel preparation from low density plastic wastes. In this study,
plastic wastes (low density polyethylene) were used for the pyrolysis to get fuel oil that has the
same physical properties as the fuels like petrol, diesel etc. Pyrolysis runs without oxygen and in
high temperature of about 300°C. Converting waste plastics into fuel hold great promise for both
the environmental and economic scenarios. Thus, the process of converting plastics to fuel has
now turned the problems into an opportunity to make wealth from waste. Pyrolysis methodology
with its parts and process description is given. Compatision between petrol, diesel and plasto fuel
is done using tabular and graphical way.

3. S D A Sharuddin, et al., Pyrolysis of plastic waste for liquid fuel production as prospective
energy resource, 2017, IOP Conf. Series: Materials Science and Engineering,(2018)

This paper deals with the thermal and catalytic degradation of plastics through pyrolysis process
and the key factors that affected the final end product, for instance, oil, gaseous and char.
Additionally, the liquid fuel properties and a discussion on several perspectives regarding the
optimization of the liquid oil yield for every plastic were also included in this paper. Process
parameters influencing the product yield and liquid fuel properties from pyrolysis of plastics are
summarized and tabulated. Moreover, with the existence of pyrolysis method to decompose
plastic into valuable energy fuel, the dependence on fossil fuel as the non-renewable energy can
be reduced and this solves the rise in energy demand.
4. D. Czajczyns, et al., Potential of pyrolysis processes in the waste management sector, Thermal
Science and Engineering Progress 3(2017) 171-197.

The main area of focus of this paper is the investigation of the link between the pyrolysis
conditions, the chemical and mineralogical composition of their products and the benefits of
pyrolysis in the waste management sector. More specifically the paper covers the fast,
intermediate and slow pyrolysis of organic waste and mixtures of inorganic and organic waste. It
addresses the types of pyrolysis reactors used to utilize different domestic waste and the types of
waste treated by pyrolysis and products obtained and their applications.

5. Shafferina Dayana Anuar Sharuddin, et al., A review on pyrolysis of plastic wastes, Energy
Conversion and Management 115(2016) 308-326.

This paper reviewed the pyrolysis process for each type of plastics and the main process
parameters that influenced the final end product such as oil, gaseous and char. The key
parameters that were reviewed in this paper included temperatures, type of reactors, residence
time, pressure, catalysts, type of fluidizing gas and its flow rate. In addition, several view points
to optimize the liquid oil production for each plastic were also discussed in this paper. The
catalytic importance in pyrolysis of plastics and characteristics of plastic pyrolysis oil along with
its by products are summarized.

ISSN 0351-9465, E-ISSN 2466-2585, Zastita Materijala 57 (4) 600 - 604 (2016).

The aim of this work is conversion of waste polyolefin mixture and production of liquid fuel
using mixture of Al2O3 and SiO2 as a catalyst. Waste mixture was pyrolyzed at temperature
range 400-5500C and obtained products were liquid fuel, gas and minor solid residue. Under the
optimized reaction conditions, the condensed liquid fraction is much larger than the gaseous
fraction. Different amounts of catalyst and polyolefin mixture as a feedstock were used. All
catalytic degradation experiments of waste polyolefin mixture (RW) were carried out and the
amounts of liquid products and process conditions, physical properties of HDPE and PP
pyrolytic oil are tabulated.

7. Elizabeth A. Williams , Paul T. Williams, Analysis of products derived from the fast pyrolysis
of plastic waste, Journal of Analytical and Applied pyrolysis, 40-41 (1997) 347-363.

The pyrolysis of a plastic mixture in a fluidized bed reactor was studied. The mixture was a
simulated fraction of that found in municipal solid waste in Europe. The influence of temperature
on product yield and composition was studied. The oils were analyzed for their functional groups
using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The molecular weight distribution was also
determined using size exclusion chromatography. It was found that as temperature was increascd
the amount of aromatic compounds in the oil increased. The molecular weight range was also
affected.
