A Note from a U Prep Mother

October 9, 2017

Hi Mr. Singer and the U Prep Team,

Charisma and Zaire here. We wanted to reach out to you to send you a very special thank you. Zaire
is now attending DSST Conservatory Green and has been excelling in his education. He’s decided to
run for student council Vice President and has joined the debate club. I personally, as a mother, want
to thank you and the staff of University Prep. I’m really beginning to see the positive effect you all
had on Zaire and the professional young man he has become. Whenever he achieves something he
always mentions how all of you had an important role in him being the young man he is today.

I want to say thank you and let you guys know that what you’re doing with kids will stick with them
long after they leave you. We love you guys and appreciate the effort you put in to helping Zaire find
himself.

Thank you.

A 2002 Census Bureau study estimated that in 1999, the average lifetime earnings of a
Bachelor’s degree holder was $2.7 million (2009 dollars), 75 percent more than that
earned by high school graduates in 1999. Today, we find similar numbers — but since 1999,
the premium on college education has grown to 84 percent.

The report, compiled annually by the Colorado Department of Higher
Education, uses data from the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment
and the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) to analyze
degree programs offered by state public and private institutions, as well as
predict future workforce needs.

The report found that Colorado's highly educated workforce will continue to
be in-demand, with 74 percent of jobs requiring some level of
postsecondary education or training by 2020.

Our Potential
University Prep is genuinely excited about the possibilities of working
with District 6, in partnership, to continue serving communities with
historically marginalized student populations. District 6 continues to be
a place that’s serious about doing right by all children and cares deeply
about ensuring equity in its education system.

We believe in working with families and with a community to support

the transformation of educational outcomes and are eager to do that
work alongside of the District 6 community.
