FAN VENT MAINTENANCE AID

1 PRODUCTS/COMPONENTS APPLICABLE

MX18 machines on MiniSpace lifts (with a machine room).

2 DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM

This FL describes a maintenance efficiency enhancement feature rather than a problem.

Maintenance activities associated with the fan on this machine can be made quicker and simpler with
the addition of this aid, which replaces several screws with wing nuts and a hinge.

3 ACTIONS

3.1 Fitting the aid during routine maintenance

You can fit the aid to the machine during the next maintenance visit or whenever appropriate.

3.2 Material required

424075G01. Hinge kit for MX18 fan.

Order additional kits from Logistics via the reservation system.
The part will be held in KEA stock so do not order from the Spare
Parts Centre or Finland.
You may also need to provide some additional wires and small
connectors if the fan power wires need to be lengthened.

3.3 Tools required

Allen keys, screw drivers, possibly a coarse file, possibly wire cutters.

4 INSTALLATION METHOD

1. Ensure no one is in the lift and the lift is stopped and turn off power to the lift.

2. If the lift is an underslung lift (machine room in basement)

remove the pedestal from the machine bedplate to enable free
access to the fan.

3. Remove the fan from the machine and disconnect the wires at the terminal block in the fan.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO LET ANYTHING FALL INSIDE THE MACHINE.
You can block the vent hole with large clean rags while you work.
4. Throw away the removed socket head screws.
5. Open up the hinge assembly and fit it to the fan vent hole on the machine using 4 countersunk
screws provided with the hinge. Arrange the hinge to swing to the left or the right by turning it over, to
whichever is the best orientation that minimises disturbance of cables etc when the fan swings open.
If there is excessive variation in the casting of an external machine web near the hinge, you may need
to carefully file off a small portion of the web that clashes with the hinge assembly, being careful not to
get iron filings into the machine.
6. Reconnect the fan power wires that come from inside the machine to the fan. The wires must pass
through the two rectangular vent holes in the hinge assembly. If the internal fan wires are short and
restrict the fan hinging motion then those wires may need to be lengthened
7. Fasten the fan to the hinge assembly using 4 countersunk screws and nuts provided with the hinge.

8. Close the hinge and fit the two wing nuts to the studs and tighten them by hand.
9. Return power to the lift.
