NATO Meets to Plan Expansion, Repression and Future Wars

Canada's right wing conservative Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, 
continues the long history of Liberal‐Conservative Party support for NATO. 
The Prime Minister hailed the 60th Anniversary of NATO and its current 
interventionist war in Afghanistan. Prime Minister Harper's adherence to 
NATO doctrines has effectively debased Canadian sovereignty over 
foreign policy to the point where NATO not the elected members of the 
Parliament of Canada now determine matters of peace and war, what is 
fundamental to Canada's national defense, the strategic doctrines and the 
procurement priorities of Canada's armed forces.  The much discussed 
Harper Government decision to purchase US produced 65 C35 fighter jet 
aircraft at an initial cost of $9 billion is largely determined by the 
interoperability of these US built aircraft with the armed forces of the 
member states of NATO.
