Gumball Outreach Coordinators

Challenge (GOCs)
Gumball Challenge Dates: November 15-22, 2010

As Gumball Outreach Coordinators (GOCs), you will be responsible to:

1. Start as early as possible, market THE CHALLENGE on your campus

2. Host an informational session one week before the start of THE CHALLENGE

3. Get judges to judge the competition – three judges is a sound number

4. Post daily updates for your school to Gumball’s website for the duration of THE
CHALLENGE

5. Make sure the teams complete the pre-CHALLENGE form at

www.gumballcapital.org

6. Stay in touch with the team Captains for updates on the team’s progress

7. Host the closing ceremony

8. Return the loans: $27 per team needs to be returned the Gumball Capital by
November 22

9. Pick where all the money raised in your CHALLENGE goes: e.g. Kiva, Wokai, a local
MFI, etc.

Monday, November 1 – TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE CHALLENGE: This is the start of
Gumball season! Start getting the word out about THE CHALLENGE you are planning to
organize. Talk with potential Gumballers (competing team members) and flyer your
campus with notifications about the campus informational session. Use the flyer on our
website. Join Gumball’s Facebook group that future Gumballers will network with add
any updates on your campus to Gumball’s website! Also, you should be approaching
professors or adult advisors who are capable and interested in serving as judges for THE
CHALLENGE. Make sure you are 110% familiar with exactly what THE CHALLENGE is and
the responsibilities of the Outreach Coordinator for your campus.

Monday, November 8 – ONE WEEK BEFORE THE CHALLENGE: Hold an informational

session on your campus explaining Gumball Capital and all the rules and goals of THE
CHALLENGE. Be as specific and engaging as you possibly can be. You are the Gumball
expert. Make a quick PowerPoint presentation and video tape your informational session.
Post updates to the website! You might even start a blog for your campus and publish
the slides and video there!

Friday, November 12 – THREE DAYS BEFORE THE CHALLENGE: All the teams on
your campus must have registered with you by this time. Each team needs to have
designated a Captain who will head the team and be responsible for managing materials
we send, including the crucial $27 loan. It is the Captain’s personal responsibility (and
thus yours as well) to return the loan to Gumball Capital as soon as THE CHALLENGE
period ends. At this time, all teams should have completed the pre-CHALLENGE form at
www.gumballcapital.org. All teams should also join Gumball’s Facebook group and post
daily updates (at least a few paragraphs) on the website; during THE CHALLENGE, the
Captain is responsible for ensuring that the team posts an update and at least five
photos to Gumball’s Facebook group and Gumball’s website per day. REMEMBER: teams
get badges and points on Gumball’s website for posting cool updates and photos…
badges and points get you legit prizes!!! (i.e. think Macbook Pros, iPads, etc.)

Monday, November 15 (Day #1): THE CHALLENGE (as well as 2010’s Global
Entrepreneurship Week) officially starts at 6:00am on this Monday. Teams can start after
this time and will probably start working with the ideas they pitched on their pre-
CHALLENGE forms. Not necessarily, though. They are free to go wherever their
entrepreneurial spirits lead them! If any questions or concerns arise, you are their go-to
person. Circa 6:00pm, follow-up with each team and remind them to post an update and
upload 10 photos on Gumball’s Facebook page / website. Keep active and continue to
market THE CHALLENGE to the rest of campus – urge people to support the teams in
the fight against poverty!

Tuesday, November 16 (Day #2): Circa 6:00pm, follow-up with each team and remind
them to post an update and upload 10 photos on Gumball’s Facebook page / website.
Get your campus yearbook or newspaper (or better yet, the local town newspaper) to
follow and document some of the teams’ progress as they start to implement cool ideas
for raising money or awareness!

them to post an update and upload 10 photos on Gumball’s Facebook page / website.

Remind all the teams that only a little more than one day remains in THE CHALLENGE!
Sunday, November 21 (Day #7): The competition should officially end at 6:00pm on
your campus. Your last big role as Outreach Coordinator is to hold the closing ceremony.
At 6:00pm, all the teams need to be back at the pre-determined location of the closing
ceremony with all the money raised on hand. The judges (with your input) should all
decide on at least the following four prizes to award: 1. BEST MICROFINANCE
ADVOCATE, 2. MOST MONEY RAISED, 3. MOST INNOVATIVE, and 4. BIGGEST RISK.
Report the winning teams to Gumball Capital so the teams can get their badges, which
all work towards awesome national prizes! Follow-up with each team one last time and
remind them to upload 10 photos to the Gumball Facebook page / blog for that Friday.

Monday, November 22 – ONE DAY AFTER THE CHALLENGE: Congrats, you’re almost
done! Wrap up final updates, comments, and photos to the Gumball Facebook group
and blog. Fill out the post-CHALLENGE form on the website. Get your school paper or
entrepreneurship club to document and celebrate the past week of chewy awesomeness
and the end of Global Entrepreneurship Week. Don’t forget to stay updated on the
status of your CHALLENGE’s profits via Kiva.org and www.gumballcapital.org.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, GUMBALLER!
