The Cyclone Giri Relief Committee of Thailland led by Arakanese monks has been formed on
24th October 2010 in Bangkok, Thailand to give necessary assistance to victims in cyclone
affected regions of Arakan.
Cyclone Giri knocked out and swept hundreds of thousands of houses; large areas of paddy field
were destroyed by the tidal surge and salt fields were flooded in seven townships of Arakan.
Winds and tidal waves of strengthening Cyclone Giri by being estimated 120 miles per hour hit
Arakan coastal regions between Sittwe and Kyaukphyu Townships.
Thousands of people in Giri destroyed areas are facing lack of foods, water shortage and shelters
currently staying at temporary camps such as monasteries and schools. There was a sad story as
hundreds of people are estimated to be dead and hundreds of people are still missing.
Homeless people are waiting for aid from donors of home and abroad. Therefore we expect to
compassionately and sympathetically contribute your donations.
